Q&A with Texas Tech Commit JM long
January 19, 2022
TEXAS - As we wait for the high school season to get underway, PBR Texas is going to be doing Q&A's with some of the top players in the State. We will be discussing their recruiting process and their upcoming High School Season.
Today we spotlight 2023 Texas Tech Commit, JM Long. We first saw Long at the 2021 UIL State Tournament. He then made a splash this past summer at the Future Games where he showed he can really swing from the left side against some of the best arms in the class.
OUR Q&A
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Long: My expectations about the recruiting process is that it was going to be quick and easy. I was looking for a place that looked like home.
P: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
L: Not at all
P: When did the recruiting process really start to heat up for you? Where did the school you committed to first see you play?
L: It started to heat up this summer. They first saw me play at Futures Games.
P: What do you like most about the program you chose, and what were the key factors in making your decision?
L: I like how they treat the players as family and how they pour into their lives.
P: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
L: Tennessee and Texas A&M
P: Who is the best player you have faced in your state? What about them makes for a tough opponent?
L: Landon Bowden. He is a extremely good pitcher and commands the zone with all of his pitches.
P: At what point in your career did you realize you were a college-caliber player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
L: I realized I was a college-caliber player this summer after my first offer.
P: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
L: Never quit working even when it’s not going your way.
P: What is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?
L: Hitting the home run in LakePoint.
P: Preview your high school team's season for us. How do you feel your team will be?
L: We will be back to back State Champs. I feel great about our team.

Scouting Report
With such a simple setup and compact powerful swing, Long has the ability to change games in the box with each swing he takes. He also once again made every play over at 3B with relative ease, proving he has a shot to stay at the hot corner with his soft hands and big bat.
