Q&A with Preseason All-State Participant: Dylan Nelson

By Jeff Markle
Assistant State Director

The High School season officially kicked off on Monday under a blanket of snow.  Prep Baseball Report will kick it's spring off with the Preseason All State Showcase event from February 22nd now to be held on March 1st at Slammers South. There is still time to request an invite to this event.  Over the course of this extra week we will showcase participants at this year's event. Continuing our look is, Dylan Nelson, 2016, 6-foot-4, 230 pound, 1B/RHP from D'Evelyn High School.

PBR:  Describe yourself as a baseball player to those who have never seen you play:.

Nelson:  I am a power hitting corner infielder committed to doing whatever it takes to help my team. I lead by example but can become vocal when my team needs it.

PBR:  What would be your dream school to play baseball at?  If you have already committed to play at the next level, why did you choose that particular school?

Nelson:  My dream school to play college baseball at would be a school that would help me grow my skills as a baseball player and as a student.

PBR:  What are your best assets on and off the field at this point in your high school career?

Nelson:  I work hard on and off the field. My high school courses are very demanding and my peers would say that I am a leader and a great teammate.

PBR:  What does your off-season preparation look like this year compared to your freshman year?

Nelson:  My freshmen year was mostly spent solely on developing and increasing my baseball specific skills and more specifically my pitching. This year, I have incorporated year round conditioning and diet regiments.

PBR:  What is the best baseball advice you have received and try to follow to this point in your career?

Nelson:  The best baseball advice that I have received to this point in my career is to accept failure. Baseball is a game of failure, and if you don’t learn to accept it, I feel that it could make the game very hard to enjoy.

PBR:  What are your superstitions or routines that go on during a season?

Nelson:  I go through the same routine before every game; I stretch, I play catch and long toss, and then I run some sprints and take some ground balls. Then I feel like I am ready to play and play at the highest level I can.

PBR:  What are your goals for:

This Season: To win a state championship with my high school team

Two Years: To be playing college baseball at a 4 year institution studying to get a business degree

Four Years: To still be playing college baseball and be searching for jobs within the business world.
