2018 RHP/MIF Connor McCullough committed to the University of Oklahoma this summer. We had a chance to talk to the talented right-hander about the process it took make his decision. McCullough is one of a few 2018 graduates to participate in the Top Prospects Games, an event that OU coaches attended.
PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose the University of Oklahoma?
McCullough: I had never really thought about OU until I heard they might be interested in me. Then I realized they offered all I was looking for in a college. They are a major D1 program, they have a great baseball program that could make it to the College World Series in the future. They play in a major conference with strong competition, and the coaches made me feel comfortable and were really interested and committed to me joining the program.
PBR: Where did they first see you compete?
McCullough: At the PBR Top Prospects Games in Springdale AR, then the Underclass Games in Jonesboro, and finally a tournament in Dallas.
PBR: When did you take your first official or unofficial visit to Oklahoma?
McCullough: July 1, 2015 unofficial
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
McCullough: Pitcher and maybe get a few swings at the plate if I continue to develop and get stronger.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
McCullough: Arkansas, Kansas State, or any SEC school
PBR: Who did you play for this summer? Talk about your experience playing for them?
McCullough: Played for the Arkansas Rawlings Prospects which was coached by the same coach, Scott Stroth, I have had since I was 6 years old. The team traveled to major tournaments in Dallas and Fort Meyers FL in order to get in front college coaches. I have played with a lot of these same team mates since I was 6 or 7 and we have had great success over the years in Arkansas and other states.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
McCullough: Scott Stroth who made the player I am today and my dad who kept pushing me
PBR: What were your stats for your High School last spring?
McCullough: Not sure contact Barrett Davis
Be like McCullough and sign up for an event this fall.
