Q&A with IPFW Commit Brandon Phelps
November 29, 2012
PBR: Why did you choose IPFW?
Phelps: I chose IPFW because I felt comfortable there. The coaches were really nice and I got to the point where we could have more personal conversations. It was like I was talking to a friend. Playing in town was another huge factor because it would allow my family and friends to come and watch me play.
PBR: Where did IPFW first see you compete?
Phelps: IPFW first saw me compete at Strikezone and the first tournament they saw me play in was in Indianapolis.
PBR: What other schools did you consider?
Phelps: I considered Indiana Tech. Not many other schools showed much interest the way IPFW did.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience during summer ball?
Phelps: I play for the Indiana Spiders also known as the Strikezone Spiders. I don't have a specific memory, but just being around the baseball family is what gives me great memories.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Phelps: My father has had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. He was the one that got me started and taught me the game.
PBR: Heading into your senior year at Snider, what are your goals individually and as a team?
Phelps: Heading into my senior season at Snider my main goals are to improve my game, but also be a leader to the underclassman. As a team our number one goal is always to win a State Title, but many other championships have to be done before that one. We want to improve each week so we have the opportunity to compete for championships.
PBR: What aspect of your game do you believe needs the most improvement?
Phelps: What I think I need to improve on most is working on my off speed pitches and work on hitting my spots more accurately.
PBR: What were your stats this past spring/ summer?
Phelps: In the spring I batted .333, ERA was 2.57 with 52 SO's
In the summer I batted .385, ERA was 1.77 with 37 SO's
