Prep Baseball Report Iowa
Grant Judkins, IF/RHP, Pella, Class of 2016
PBR: Why did you choose the University of Iowa?
JUDKINS: I chose Iowa because I really liked the coaching staff as well as the facilities. It felt like a great fit for me and I've been a Hawkeye fan my whole life.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
JUDKINS: I was considering Creighton, Northern Illinois, Nebraska, and Central College.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
JUDKINS: The coaching staff first saw me at a Perfect Game showcase last spring. They came and watched several games this last summer and fall. I talked to them on the phone and finally went on a visit at the end of the fall.
PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
JUDKINS: Yes it's nice to get the decision out of the way so I can go out and enjoy my last two years of high school ball.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
JUDKINS: I think the deciding factor was when I met all of the coaches. I had heard good things about the coaching staff and was very impressed with them.
PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
JUDKINS: My parents have helped me get to where I am today. They taught me how to play the game the right way.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
JUDKINS: I wasn't really sure what to expect with the whole process. I enjoyed getting to talk to the coaches and see the different campuses. The difficult part was letting the other coaches know I wouldn't be going there.
PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
JUDKINS: They expect me to come in and work hard and compete for playing time and potentially be a two-way player.
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
JUDKINS: A few of my best baseball memories are winning the district championship game last season and playing in a tournament in front of several college coaches in Florida this fall.
PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have competed against?
JUDKINS: Probably future teammates Chris Comito and Cole Baker.
