Q&A With Nebraska-Omaha Commit: Henry Wittren

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

WITTREN: I chose the University of Nebraska - Omaha because the coaching staff impressed me with how they ran their program. The recent success the program has had also attracted me to UNO.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

WITTREN: North Dakota State, North Dakota, Minnesota State, and Augustana were all in the mix at some point in time.

PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

WITTREN: I'm not sure as to when exactly the coaches saw me for the first time, but they did come to a few of my games this past summer after they had contacted me. My relationship developed with Coach Gadsden after he came to Rochester to meet me in July.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?

WITTREN: I'm ready to play wherever the coaches need me to, whether that is behind the plate or in the field.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

WITTREN: The people who have made the largest impact on me with baseball would be my parents; they have given me an astonishing amount of encouragement over the years as well as several amazing opportunities playing baseball. Also the coaches I have had the past few years have really shown me that if I continue to work hard it will pay off.

PBR: What have you worked on/ improved since last year?

WITTREN: Over the past year I have really worked on getting bigger, stronger, and faster, as well as improving my footwork behind the plate and in the field. I have also been working on the mechanics of my swing and have already seen tremendous improvements in that.

PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Minnesota?

WITTREN: The toughest players I have faced in Minnesota would have to been either Jake Irvin, Ty Buck, or Jeff Athey.

PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.

WITTREN: Always play your hardest because you never know who's watching. You may only get one opportunity to showcase your skills to a school. Especially for catchers, try not to lock yourself down to being just a catcher. If you can develop your skills in the field somewhere it will help you tremendously.
