PBR: Why did you choose Marshalltown CC?
BERTRAND: I thought it was the best place where I could develop as a player and earn playing time.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
BERTRAND: I was really just keeping my options open. There were Division 2 and 3 schools interested. My goal is to play Division 1 and this is my best option to get there.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
BERTRAND: They saw me play during my high school season. After they saw me play in the first round of play-offs against Pella we met and kept in contact. I scheduled a visit and really had a good connection.
PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
BERTRAND: Yes.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
BERTRAND: The chance at earning playing time as a freshman and develop myself for the next level. Being comfortable with the coaches too was a big part.
PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
BERTRAND: My dad, Chris Bertrand. From taking swings in the garage; after a game helping and telling me what I can work on to ultimately get better as a baseball player. Also my coach Byran Peyton. Supporting me and pushing me in practice and the games to the level that he knows I can play at.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
BERTRAND: It was pretty easy.
PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
BERTRAND: They've told me I have the opportunity to step in and play right away. They like my speed.
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
BERTRAND: Playing in the 2014 Iowa High School State Championship game as a sophomore and the journey to get there. Also making the game ending catch in right field to send us to the championship game.
PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
BERTRAND: Grant Judkins from Pella is the most complete player I've played against.
