Parker Hanson

Parker Hanson, RHP/1B, Hawley, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?

HANSON: I felt that Dakota County Technical College was the best fit for me with their baseball program to allow me to move on to a higher level after my 2 years. It was also a good fit for me academically as it will allow me to get started on my major and also minor.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

HANSON: When I narrowed down my list, it was down to DCTC, Viterbo University (WI), Northern Iowa Area CC, and Concordia- Moorhead.

PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?

HANSON: They first saw me at the PBR Showcase that was held on their campus. Soon after, I received an email from them and they continued to stay in constant contact. They showed a lot of interest which intrigued me. I've had many conversations with both the head coach, Trent, and the pitching coach, Greg. I look forward to working with them the next 2 years.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?

HANSON: I expect to be in the rotation my first year and hope to prove myself as a go to guy in important games.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

HANSON: My mom has had the biggest impact on my baseball career. She introduced me to the game at 2 and has backed me in everything I do in baseball. She gave me every opportunity to make it to the collegiate level.

PBR: What have you worked on/ improved since last year?

HANSON: I have worked on my off-speed pitches and improved my change-up to be able to throw it with confidence. I have increased my velocity with some training, as well.

PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Minnesota?

HANSON: The toughest player I have seen is Ty Denzer who I saw at a showcase I participated at, but I have not my faced him before. The toughest player I have faced in a game would be Eric Veglahn who pitches at St. Thomas now. I faced him as a sophomore in the Legion state tournament.

PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.

HANSON:  If you are looking to get recruited, make sure to get your name out sooner rather than later. I waited longer than I should have and it made it more difficult for me to find a college. Perform in showcases as a junior or sooner, and continue to do so if you can afford it.
