Q and A with Michigan State Commit and Midwest Futures Games Invitee: Kory Young (Rockford HS)
June 20, 2012
Kory Young, SS, Rockford HS, Class of 2014
PBR Michigan recently caught up with Rockford's Kory Young who is also a PBR Midwest Futures Game invitee. See Kory's answers below.
PBR: What type of training did you do this past winter to prepare for the
high school season?
Young: I did speed, agility, and strength training with Jason Downing at the MVP
Parisi Speed School two or three times a week all throughout the winter to
stay in shape and improve my athleticism. Also, twice a week I would work on
my swing from both sides with Coach Bryan Baar at Elite Baseball and then
with our High School's 4 man workouts as the season started getting closer.
PBR: Now that your sophomore season is coming to a close what do you plan
to do over the next 18 months to catch the eyes of college scouts?
Young: I have already verbally committed to play baseball for Michigan State
University, but plan to use this summer to improve as much as I can in hopes
of giving myself the opportunity to play in front of professional scouts.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable
experience from last summer?
Young: I play for Team Ram Black which is our local summer ball team and also with
Elite Gold 18u coached by Jim Abbot.
My most memorable moment from last spring/summer was when our High School
Team won the Michigan State Division 1 State Championship. We had been
working toward that goal since the previous winter and to have things come
together and for us and to achieve our top goal was an amazing experience.
How that felt and the guys who were on the team are things that I will never
forget.
PBR: What position do you anticipate playing in college?
Young: In college I hope to play shortstop, but could also play 2nd or 3rd if my
coach feels I would be better there and that's what the team needed.
PBR: What is your current GPA?
Young: 4.14
PBR: What's the biggest baseball event or tournament on your calendar in
the coming months?
Young: I will be attending the Area Codes Games this summer and also am going to
play in the Midwest Future Games representing the state of Michigan
PBR: Who is the toughest player in your class that you have played against
or with?
Young: That's really tough to say. Playing in the OK Red Conference there's a lot
of good ball players, It's high level competition daily, and to try and
single out one or two guys is really difficult.
