Q and A with Eckerd Commit Adam Moreau (Ottawa Hills HS)

Adam Moreau, SS, Ottawa Hills HS

PBR: Why did you choose Eckerd?

Moreau: I wanted to go a place where the coaches believe in me, and Coach Bill Mathews made it clear from the outset that he thought highly of me.  Also, Eckerd plays in the Sunshine State Conference which has been the top rated DII baseball conference in America for the past 5 years.  Last year alone, 17 players were drafted out of the conference so I know I’ll get the chance to play in front of scouts from most major league teams throughout my career.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Moreau: Virginia Tech, Bradley, Evansville, and Rollins.

PBR: Eckerd is in Florida, where did the coaching staff first see you compete?
Moreau: Coach Mathews saw me on campus in a tryout before my high school season started  (something that I learned DII schools are allowed to do).

PBR: Did playing in the southern weather have a major influence in your decision?
Moreau: YES!  After a lifetime of playing baseball in northwest Ohio, how can you beat Florida?

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Moreau: Eckerd loses both of its middle infielders this year, and Coach Mathews expects me to compete for a starting middle infield spot right away.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Eckerd?
Moreau: I’m not very comfortable talking about my strengths; however, my coaches regularly say I have a great work ethic, plate discipline, swing, hands, and mental approach to the game.  In terms of my skills, I’m a gap to gap hitter with occasional home run power.  My goal is to do everything I can to get the most out of my ability to help Eckerd succeed in any way possible.  I trust Coach Mathews to figure out how best to use my talents to achieve these goals.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Moreau: I played for the Louisiana Knights and in a New Orleans college summer league the past two years.  This summer I again plan to play in the New Orleans college summer league.  I don’t have one specific memorable experience.  I just loved everything about getting the chance to play with and against some of the best players in the U.S. for the past two years.

PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Moreau: I could go on and on about goals, but I have one goal that supersedes all others and that’s to win a state championship.

PBR: What were your stats for last spring season at Ottawa Hills?
Moreau: I don’t recall all my stats, but I know I hit .400 and led my team in RBIs.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Moreau: This is kind of hard to answer.  The best pitcher I faced in Ohio was Mike Hamman my freshman year.  He was drafted out of high school and currently pitches for the University of Toledo.
