Q and A with Akron Commit Daulton Mosbarger (Bellefontaine)
January 29, 2012
PBR: Why did you choose Akron?
Mosbarger: I chose Akron because I really liked what Coach Rembielak and his staff have to offer me. I really believe they have what it takes to compete for a MAC title. I also like the urban setting and the fact that the Akron Aeros are down the road.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Mosbarger: Lake Erie, Oakland, and Ashland
PBR: Where did Akron first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Mosbarger: Coach Worth saw me multiple times in the summer, but Coach Rembielak and Coach Ford recently saw me at the Silver Spikes Showcase in Avon. I was in contact with Coach Worth throughout the fall, and he was dead set on making me a Zip.
PBR: How does if feel to be a part of Coach Rembielak’s first recruiting class at Akron?
Mosbarger: It's an honor to be a part of the beginning of Coach Rem's era. I feel like they are making great strides towards the future and I am ready to be along for the ride.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Mosbarger: They expect me to come in and compete for an outfield spot right away, as well as, pick up some innings out of the bullpen.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Akron?
Mosbarger: I would consider my grittiness to be my biggest strength as a player. My willingness to dive for a ball, take the extra base, extend an at bat, and simply, put my head down and get after it will help Akron out the most.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Mosbarger: I play for the Dayton Dodgers 18U for coach Jeff Reboulet. My most memorable experience was playing against the Ohio Elite (Shier) in an 11 inning game where I pitched the first 7 innings in a 1-1 ballgame. We ended up winning the game 3-1.
PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Mosbarger: My goal is to be a leader for our team and help the team get better each day. I also want to improve on the little things in my own game to make me a better baseball player than I was last year. As for the team, my hopes are for us to earn a CBC title and make a run in the tournament.
PBR: What were your stats for this spring season at Bellefontaine?
Mosbarger: I batted .481 with 11 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 19 SB, 34 RBI, 40 R, and 16 BB. I was 5-3 on the mound with a 2.92 ERA and 56 K's in 52.2 innings. I was named 1st Team All Ohio for my efforts.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Mosbarger: 2011 graduate, Matt Wisler from the Columbus Cobras. He was throwing in the low 90's and his offspeed pitches were ridiculous.
