Jake Rosen, INF, Saint Johns Shrewsbury HS, Class of 2016
PBR: Why did you choose Virginia Tech?
Rosen: I chose Virginia Tech because it was the ideal fit for me both academically and athletically. I have always wanted to be able to play down south in the ACC, and Virginia Tech offered me that opportunity. Virginia Tech provides a great atmosphere for college student athletes. Lastly the coaching staff at VT has been supportive and has developed a program that I want to be part of.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Rosen: I was considering all the top D1 schools in the Northeast. I received interest from Northeastern, Holy Cross, UCONN and Bryant.
PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals for your junior year?
Rosen: Having lost back-to-back years in the Central Mass tournament, my number one goal is for my high school team, Saint Johns Shrewsbury, to be selected into the Massachusetts super eight tournament and to win states. Secondly, I am going to continue to improve my overall skills along with developing my strength and conditioning at Cressey Performance.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience?
Rosen: Next summer I will be playing for the North East Baseball Rays coached by Scott Patterson. My most memorable experience was during my 15-year-old year playing for the Northeast Mizuno Prospects. My team finished among the top 16 in the WWBA down in Georgia.
PBR: What person has the greatest impact on your baseball career and why?
Rosen: My father has had the greatest impact on my baseball career. He coached me up until high school, and has always been there to support me and guide me throughout my growth as a player. He played collegiate baseball at Northeastern University, and has passed along his strong work ethic to me.
PBR: Who is the best pitcher you've faced in the state?
Rosen: Jack Riley from Saint Peter Marian. Jack was by far the best pitcher I have faced during my first two years of high school baseball. He was a hard throwing lefty, with great command of his fastball and curveball. He is now a freshman playing baseball at UCONN.
