Q and A with 2015 Dayton Commit: Connor Echols (Sidney HS)
July 24, 2014
Connor Echols, INF/OF, Sidney HS, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Dayton?
Echols: I chose the University of Dayton because I loved everything about it. The coaches were extremely nice, the campus was top notch, and the team is currently on the right track for the future.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Echols: I was considering Morehead State, Xavier, Walsh, and Lake Erie.
PBR: Where did the Dayton coaches first see you?
Echols: He first saw me at a camp at SWOBAT in West Chester. A week later, he invited me to Dayton's Junior Day.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment.
Echols: I play for the Cincy Flames. My most memorable moment this summer was beating Ohio Elite in the bottom of the 7th in which I scored from first on a John Malott bunt to score the final run.
PBR: Dayton is literally in your backyard. How much of a role did distance play in your decision?
Echols: It played a huge role! I love having my family at my games and I know it means a lot to them to watch me play.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Echols: I play for the Cincy Flames.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Echols: I honestly wasn't sure what to expect but I knew it would be long and stressful. Emailing every Coach back, even if it is just a camp invite to let them know your options are open. It was well worth it though.
PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Sidney?
Echols: .477 avg, 41 hits, 41 rbis, 14 stolen bases, 13 doubles, 3 triples, 2 homeruns, .484 OBP
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Echols: Jake Collins, I didn't do anything productive against him whatsoever.
