Q and A with 2014 Eastern Kentucky Commit: Sam Williams (Massillon Jaskson HS)
August 27, 2013
Sam Williams, LHP, Massillon Jackson HS, Class of 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Eastern Kentucky?
Williams:: I chose Eastern Kentucky because I felt like it was a great fit for me and I knew once I was on campus that it was the place for me. Also they have a strong program in the OVC and look to win the conference every year.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Williams: Some other schools I had in mind were: Bowling Green, Miami OH, and Pitt.
PBR: You have made your commitment very early. Why did you chose to make your decision so soon and are you finished with the recruiting process?
Williams: I committed early to EKU because it was the perfect fit for me.
PBR: You recently attended PBR’s Unsigned Senior Showcase. How did that help you in the recruiting process?
Williams: The Unsigned Senior game helped because EKU needed to see me one more time and it was there.
PBR: Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Williams: My individual goals are to get bigger this offseason and develop more as a pitcher. As a team I have high expectations for us this spring. We have a lot of returning starters and a lot of talent. I think our pitching will be our strongest. We have two other lefties, Ryan Gusbar and Tim Turner, that really compete and give us chances to win. It will be a fun season and I look forward to it!
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?
Williams: It feels great knowing that your hard work has paid off but more work still needs to be done.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Williams: In the summer I played for the Diamond Boys 17u and most memorable experience was throwing a No-Hitter at Midland in front of EKU.
PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Massillon Jackson?
Williams: Last spring I went 4-0 as a starter on weekend games.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Williams: I would say the toughest hitter I've faced was Justin Wagler when we faced the Terriers last summer.
