Q and A with 2014 Cincinnati Commit: Nick Voss (Moeller HS)
August 31, 2013
Nick Voss, RHP, Moeller HS, Class of 2014
PBR: Why did you choose Cincinnati?
Voss:I chose Cincinnati because I felt very comfortable with Coach Neal and Coach Heilmann. I think that they will help me develop into the best pitcher I possibly can. Also, it is right down the highway for my parents so they can make it to most of the games.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Voss: I was also considering Furman, Northern Kentucky, Evansville and Xavier.
PBR: Coach Neal was just recently hired as the new coach at UC. How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?
Voss: It feels great. I'm ready to get started!
PBR: Coach Neal was a big part of the success at why Indiana went to the College World Series. How quickly do you think that success can transfer to Bearcat baseball?
Voss: I think his success can transfer very quickly because he is bringing a winning energy and attitude to UC that everybody will feed off of.
PBR: Where did the Coach Neal first see you compete and how did your relationship develop with the rest of the coaching staff?
Voss: I'm not sure where Coach Neal first saw me but we were in contact while he was still at IU. When he came to UC we began to talk a lot more.
PBR: What role does the coaching staff expect you to play during your first year on campus?
Voss: Just come in and work as hard as I can and compete for some innings.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of the Moeller baseball tradition?
Voss: It's amazing to play in a program where so much is expected of you. To play with the same name on the jersey as Barry Larkin and Ken Griffey Jr. is crazy.
PBR: Last spring Moeller won back to back Division 1 State titles. How much pressure do you feel to try to three-peat the Championship season
Voss: I think there is always going to be pressure to get to the final four at Moeller. Everybody will be coming after us but I think our team enjoys having the target on our back.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Voss: My dad has had the biggest impact on me because he got me to fall in love with the game. He has done a ton for me in the recruiting process.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most exciting experience playing summer ball?
Voss: I play for the Cincinnati Bandits. It's hard to pick one experience because there were so many great times with my team.
PBR: What were your stats last season for Moeller?
Voss: I was 5-1 with with a 2.0 ERA in 35 innings with a save.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter you have faced in Ohio?
Voss: I have to say my Moeller teammate Riley Mahan.
