Tony Winters, LHP, Watkins Memorial HS, Class of 2013

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio University?

Winters: The overall appeal of the university and the quality of the Engineering program caught my eye.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Winters: Miami (Ohio), Xavier, Wright State, West Virginia

PBR:  Coach Smith was just recently hired at OU.  How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?

Winters: It feels exciting. Coach Smith is looking for specific players to fulfill specific roles and I'm glad I could do that.

PBR: Where did the Bobcat coaches first see you?

Winters: A legion tournament in Lancaster.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Winters: To be utilized for pitching.

PBR:  What team do you play for in the summer?

Winters: Pickerington Legion Post 283

PBR: What sort of sacrifices did you have to make to play a travel intensive schedule during the summer?? What sort of advice would you pass on to players looking to make the same decision?

Winters: With a busy schedule in the summer, you definitely lose time spending with friends and family. My advice for players who plan on playing an intense schedule would be to take advantage of those off days.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Winters: My dad, he pushes me to always keep a high intensity when I play.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Watkins Memorial?

Winters: ERA: 2.20, IP: 41.1, K: 79, BB: 12.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Winters: Wynston McMartin
