Paul Trick, 3B, Olentangy Orange HS, Class of 2013
PBR: Why did you choose Gardner Webb?
Trick: I chose Gardner Webb University because of the baseball program it has to offer and the Christian atmosphere.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Trick: I was looking at Xavier, Cincinnati and Bowling Green.
PBR: Where did the Gardner Webb coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Trick: They first saw me at their Prospect Camp in January and we continued to stay in touch leading up to this summer.
PBR: Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Trick: It was a factor but having the opportunity to play down south is exciting.
PBR: You recently attended PBR's Top Prospect Showcase. How did that help you in the recruiting process?
Trick: It helped with getting me exposure to many colleges in the Midwest and got me on their radar.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Trick: Gardner Webb recruited me as a third baseman because their current third baseman will be a senior this year.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Trick: I expected the recruiting process to be difficult and in-depth as it turned out to be.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Trick: I've been very fortunate to have excellent coaches over the last many years and they've all had a great impact on me.
PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Olentangy Orange?
Trick: I batted .330 and had a .411 OBP. I also went 7-1 as a pitcher.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Trick: I have faced many tough pitchers in Ohio but can't recall any particular one.
