Q and A with 2013 Dayton Commit: Jason Johnson (Dublin Jerome HS)
July 27, 2012
Jason Johnson, RHP, Dublin Jerome HS, Class of 2013
PBR: Why did you choose Dayton?
Johnson: I chose Dayton because it is a great baseball school with great academics.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Johnson: I was considering Ohio University, Toledo, Ball State, Michigan State, Wright State, Bowling Green, and Cornell.
PBR: You recently attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase. How did that help you in the recruiting process?
Johnson: It was a great opportunity to be seen by tons of scouts and really helped get my name out there as well as show off what I could do.
PBR: Your high school teammate Aaron Huesman, will be a freshman at Dayton next fall. He did have any influence of your recruitment?
Johnson: He was a great resource to talk to if I had any questions but ultimately I had to make the best decision for me.
PBR: Where did Coach Vittorio first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Johnson: Coach Vittorio first saw me at the Midwest scout games. After that I was invited see the campus and really got a good feel for everything they had to offer.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?
Johnson: It's a great feeling to know that all my hard work has paid off. I have dreamed of playing baseball in college since grade school. I am proud to have made it into a Division 1 program.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Johnson: The Ohio Elite. My most memorable experience was last year in Florida during a Perfect Game tournament. We played a team that was undefeated and very highly ranked in the nation. I pitched a no hitter until the 7th inning. We had 2 homeruns from my teammates Zach Sterry, and Connor Holdren and upset the team and to keep them from bracket play.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Johnson: I expected the process to be confusing and hard and it was!
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio?
Johnson: There are a lot of good hitters...Tom Stoffel, Chris Ramsey, Luke Wofford.
