Q and A with 2013 Bowling Green commit: Greg Basalyga (Pickerington Central HS)
July 16, 2012
Greg Basalyga, RHP/3B, Pickerington Central HS, Class of 2013
PBR: Why did you choose Bowling Green?
Basalayga: I really liked the coaching staff, facilities, the school itself, and most importantly I think Coach Schmitz and the coaching staff can help take my game to the next level.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Basalayga: Tennessee Tech, Xavier, Kent State
PBR: Where did the BG coaches first see you?
Basalayga: PBR Top Prospect Games
PBR: You recently attended PBR’s Top Prospect Showcase. How did that help you in the recruiting process?
Basalayga: It really was the spark plug to my whole recruiting process. Because of football it was hard to get to schools fall camps and I was under the radar. Fortunately I did well at this event and it attracted a lot of interest from colleges.
PBR: You have made your commitment very early. Why did you chose to make your decision so soon and are you finished with the recruiting process?
Basalayga: I am finished with the recruiting process. On the visit to Bowling Green I felt there was good chemistry with Coach Schmitz and his staff and knew he's the type of guy I would want to play for.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Basalayga: My first year on campus I know I will have to work hard to earn a spot but with talking to them they feel I can make and early impact as a 3rd baseman and middle of the lineup type guy and also some pitching.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer?
Basalayga: Columbus Cobras
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Basalayga: My Dad has had the biggest impact on me as a baseball player. He was the first one to put a bat and ball in my hands and really took a lot of time and patience to help me as a little kid to turn me into the baseball player I am today.
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Basalayga: Nick Jensen-Clagg
