PBR: Why did you choose Baldwin Wallace?
Crates: I chose Baldwin Wallace because of the relationship I had with the coaching staff. I knew Coach Harrison has had success in the past and I was looking forward to contributing to the program. I also enjoyed being on the campus.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Crates: Ohio Northern and John Carroll.
PBR: What was the relationship you had with the Coach Harrison and the rest of the coaching staff in the recruitment process?
Crates: I really liked the coaching staff and feel comfortable spending the next four years there.
PBR: Where did Baldwin Wallace first see you compete?
Crates: I think it was the showcase held during the Phoenix Wood Bat tournament last summer.
PBR: Coach Harrison has been able to turnaround every program that he has coached. How much did the success of Coach Harrison influence your decision?
Crates: Coach Harrison's played a big part in my final decision.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help as a Yellow Jacket?
Crates: I feel I have discipline at the plate and my athleticism in the field and running the bases should be a contribution to the team.
PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Crates: Granville Legion. My most memorable experience was a tournement in Myrtle Beach.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Crates: My uncle. Stephen Gussler (Thomas Worthington HS, Head Coach)
PBR: What were your stats last spring at Granville?
Crates: I was out for half the season with a quad injury so I only had 49 at bats, but i batted .388,with15 RBI's, and had an on base percentage of .452
PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?
Crates: Robert Ziegler (Defiance)
