Kris Popham, LHP, Olentnagy Liberty, Class of 2012
PBR: Why did you choose Wright State?
Popham: I like the coaching staff, the success of the program, and the campus facilities including the medical school. I feel like I will fit in very well.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Popham: University of Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Heidelberg, and Washington & Jefferson – all made offers.
PBR: Where did Coach Cooper first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Popham: My relationship with Coach Cooper and his staff developed late in the process. I had a great spring and they showed some interest. They saw me last fall at Kent State, but our serious relationship began just a few weeks ago at my first summer tournament – Tri-State Elite.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?
Popham: It is really a childhood dream to play at this next level. I waited for a chance to play Division 1 and the wait paid off!
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Popham: Coach Cooper made it clear from the beginning that the best players will be on the field regardless of their class.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Raider baseball?
Popham: My biggest strength is my competiveness. I believe that I will help Raider Baseball achieve their goals both on the field and in the classroom.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Popham: Ohio Elite – Huesman. Getting 2 victories while winning the Dublin All-American Tournament.

Popham: I expected it to be very difficult and often confusing – and it was!
PBR: What were your stats this spring season at Olentangy Liberty
Popham: 5-2 with 2 saves. 58 innings, 52 K’s.
PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced in Ohio ?
