Taylor Huebner, SS, Piqua HS, Class of 2012
PBR: Why did you choose Bowling Green ?
Huebner: My high school coaches both were former BGSU baseball players and Coach Askins recommended BG. When I visited I really liked what the coaches had to say, the baseball facilities and the school overall.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
Huebner: Sinclair and Ohio University
PBR: Where did Coach Schmitz first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Huebner: He came to watch me play for the Dayton Classics this summer. I met Coach Schmitz and Coach Blanc when I went to visit, I found them very helpful and since then I have communicated through phone conversations and e-mails.
PBR: How does it feel to be a part of a Division 1 baseball program?
Huebner: It feels great, that was the ultimate goal. Now I have to go prove myself and get better there.
PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Huebner: Since I have played the left side of the infield most of my baseball life, Coach Schmit thinks I will have an opportunity to compete for a starting role my first year. This year during the fall baseball season I will have the opportunity to showcase my skills as a player.
PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help Falcon baseball?
Huebner: I would have to say my biggest strength as a player would be my ability to hit from both sides of the plate.
Who did you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?
Huebner: Dayton Classics. My most memorable experience from this summer is hitting a three run homerun to lead my team to victory in a close game against the Indiana Bulls.
PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Huebner: I did not have any expectations about the recruiting process. I attended a few showcase events that explained the recruiting process and it to be really helpful. Also, being a part of the Dayton Classics, Coach Beemer was very helpful in clarifying the recruiting process and answering any questions that my family and I had.
