Q&A With Nebraska Commit Robbie Palkert

2015 Robbie Palkert, RHP, Hopkins HS- MN

PBR:  Why did you choose the University of Nebraska?
Palkert:  I chose the University of Nebraska because of the atmosphere. I wanted to go to a school where I would enjoy school as well as baseball, not just baseball. I went there and it felt like a second home. Everyone was extremely friendly and I could tell I would be surrounded by a solid group of guys for the next four years of my life.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Palkert:  I was also considering Jacksonville University, Winona State and North Dakota State University

PBR:  Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
Palkert:  Coach Erstad first saw me at the Midwest Baseball Classic in Joliet, Illinois. He came up and spoke with me after I pitched, and from there the coaching staff has been fantastic. They would check in with me a couple times a week and invited me down soon after they saw me. I really look forward to the opportunity to play for all of them during my college career.

PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
Palkert:  I am not really sure what role to expect during my first year.  I am going to go in and try my best to play as much as possible, but whatever Coach decides for me is good. I will help the team wherever I am put, and will continue to be a team player.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
Palkert:  My parents had the biggest impact on me by far. I cannot say enough about how their positive attitude and encouragement helped me progress throughout my young career. They are constantly helping me in any way possible.

PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
Palkert:  Since last year, my biggest improvement came on my control. I pride myself in pounding the strike zone and getting ahead of hitters. By doing so, it makes my job a lot easier because the hitter begins to guess and overthink.

PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Minnesota?
Palkert:  The toughest player I have ever faced has been Josh Falk from Minnetonka. He is a monster at the plate and can turn any mistake into a homerun in a hurry. Although he is a tough out, I love facing him. It pushes myself to be a better pitcher.

PBR:  What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.
Palkert:  My advice to other baseball players would be to just enjoy the process. Have fun during the recruiting part of the season because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Also, find a school that you enjoy enough that if you got injured the first day of practice, you would still enjoy for four years.
