November 4, 2013
By Phil Wade
Director, PBR Indiana
Last spring at Franklin Central Yates was an absolute force at the plate hitting a stellar .463 with 6 HR, 9 2B, and 40 RBI.
Below Yates discusses his commitment to Kentucky Wesleyan:
PBR: Ultimately, why did you choose Kentucky Wesleyan?
Yates: The coaching staff and baseball program are great. It also offers exercise science as a major.
PBR: Where did Kentucky Wesleyan first see you compete?
Yates: They first saw me at a camp at Eastern Illinois then I really drew their attention at the PBR Unsigned Senior Event at Bishop Chatard.
PBR: Were there any other schools you were considering?
Yates: I was considering Franklin College and Danville CC.
PBR: Who do you play for in the summer, and how have they helped you as a baseball player?
Yates: The Indiana Eagles-Orange and their program exposed me to a lot of great competition.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you overall as a baseball player?
Yates: My parents, they have been my biggest supporters and they push me to do good both on the field and in the classroom.
PBR: What are your goals personally this off-season?
Yates: To get bigger, stronger and faster. I'm also going to work on taking the ball to the opposite field more.
PBR: Franklin Central won the Marion County title last season and brings back a lot of talent next spring. What are your goals personally and as a team for the 2014 season?
Yates: With a pitching staff as deep and talented as ours I think we'll have a good chance at the state title this year.
PBR: What is your greatest baseball moment/memory leading up to now?
Yates: Hitting a home run in the Marion county championship which turned out to be the winning run at the end of the game.
