The Buzz
Tommy Githens is a 6-foot-4, 215 pound right-handed pitcher from West Morris Mendham High School and Locked in Baseball. He is an athletic pitcher who has found consistent success on the mound this summer. He is receiving interest from division one schools and is a definite division one pitcher based on both current and projectable abilities.
Scouting Report
Githens is an athletic pitcher who has a long and loose elbow climb arm action. He has good arm speed and pitches from a ¾ arm slot which generates plus fastball movement. Having seen Githens three times this summer, he continually breezes through innings largely with his above average fastball. His velocity has ranged between 83-88 miles-per-hour sitting largely in the 84-87 MPH range. He gets a good amount of arm side life and sink on his fastball. He shows good direction down the mound with solid hip-shoulder separation. His fastball command is solid, especially to his arm side and down.
His off-speed pitches are a bit behind his feel for his fastball. He throws a slider that shows some signs of being a two-plane out pitch. Most of the time, however, it has more of a tight cutter action. The velocity of this pitch is between 75-78 miles-per-hour. He also flashes a changeup which has nice run and fade. Githens could become a force with continued development of his secondary pitches.
