The Buzz
Matt Gannon is a very projectable 6-foot-6 left-handed pitcher who projects extremely well. Relatively unknown to Prep Baseball Report before this weekend, Gannon exploded onto the map at Selectfest, an event known for having quality talent. Gannon did an excellent job of navigating his two innings of work and proved to be extremely pitchable. He is an excellent student who should earn himself a healthy number of college options.
Scouting Report
Gannon has a very long, slender build and shows very loose and athletic movements both on the mound and in long toss. He has very simple, repeatable mechanics and he does a great job of gaining direction with his hip lead leg lift. The left-hander does a nice job getting over his front knee to create some extension, however he could eventually lengthen his stride. He has a loose arm with some whip to it.
Gannon pitched in this outing with his fastball velocity between 78 and 81 miles-per-hour. He did a nice job locating the ball to his arm side and has some arm side run. He showed the ability to spin a potentially plus breaking pitch at 70-71 miles-per-hour. It possessed tight spin and late break. With the summer comes plenty of appearances on the mound which may have led to the lower velocity on Saturday. I expect him to typically be 83-85 MPH.
