LOUISIANA
One of college baseball’s elite shortstops anchors the offense and the defense for the Ragin’ Cajuns in junior Hayden Cantrelle, a quick-twitch athlete with slick defensive actions and a good arm, as well as advanced barrel control from both sides of the plate. He hit .309/.426/.504 with nine homers and 28 stolen bases as a sophomore. He showed off his sneaky pop in Saturday’s scrimmage at Mississippi State by ripping a three-run homer down the right-field line, lifting the Cajuns to a 7-4 win in the first seven-inning exhibition (the game that featured the “A” units for both teams). Cantrelle also has good speed and knows how to use it on the basepaths.
