Preseason Preview: Eastlake Titans

COVID ended the 2020 season early throughout the State but as things progress quickly for the 2021 high school season, it’s time for us to preview teams from around the State in the Yearly Preseason Preview. Schedules are being adapted to fit the ever-changing landscape and though this season may look different than history has shown us, coaches/staff, players, families, and our team are preparing for 2021 to be as successful as possible.

We’ve submitted the Preseason Questionnaire to high school head coaches across the entire state and their responses have been flooding in. Over the next several weeks, we’ll be using their detailed insight on our team-by-team previews ahead of the 2021 season leading into the California Power 25 Rankings.

SEASON OUTLOOK:

Eastlake High School has been a perennial power in San Diego with a long history of producing high-level talent (2019 SS Keoni Cavaco, 1st Round - Minnesota Twins) and this year will be no different with 2021 SS Marcelo Mayer being one of the top players in the Nation. Eyes will be around the Eastlake team all season and with a strong group of returning players, the Titans are looking to make another strong run through the Mesa League and into the San Diego Playoffs.

This team will be filled with plenty of bats and the extended lineup will be a nightmare for opposing pitchers to have to face regularly. That offense will be counted on and if they can get on the board early that will be able to help settle the young pitching staff. That young staff will be led by Long Beach State commit, 2021 RHP Ray Cebulski who will be the go-to in big games all season. Coach Gallegos has been at Eastlake for 13 years and with his experience at the helm, the Titans will be making noise in San Diego again this season.
