Preseason Preview: Chandler High
February 15, 2022
Opening Day is around the corner, try outs have been held, and rosters are soon to be set. The Arizona Interscholastic Association has announced that opening day of the 2022 season will commence on Wednesday, February 23rd. The PBR Arizona staff begins its 2022 season coverage starting with our preseason team previews, where we will take notes from coaches, and highlight returning players, newcomers, and some sleepers. Over the next couple weeks and leading up to opening day, we will be highlighting some of the top programs in state in our team previews. PBR will also be publishing its state Power 25 rankings that will be updated every Monday once the season begins. Throughout the season, PBR will be pumping out coverage, highlighting individual players, games, rankings, scouting reports and nominating a player of the week. PBR looks forward to getting out there this spring to see some great baseball.
Today, we look into:
Team: Chandler High School (6A, Premier)
2021 Record: 11-10
Head Coach: David Lopez
Returning Starters: 9
Returning Pitchers: 3
OUTLOOK
As we gather info from coaching staffs, and come to a conclusion with our Preseason Power 25 Rankings, Coach Lopez and Chandler High will be a team in the 6A Division that opponents do not want to run into. Only losing two key players from 2021's roster, they come into the 2022 season with a roster full of veterans and guys that play well together. Chandler is a high energy team with physicality. With a deep pitching staff (Hutchison, Shumaker, Sleconich), and a catcher that controls the game (Meade), pitching and defense seem to be one of their strengths. BUT as we mentioned above, this team is physical, and very aggressive in the box. Chandler's hitters attack the FB, they get on the one they want and they hit it hard. When they're on the bases, they put pressure on the defense. Chandler is a team that's going to take it to anybody in the opposing dugout, and play with their hair on fire. Brody Sexton, Seth Moore, and Tate Scott are among those on this roster with some power and speed, expect some power numbers, run production, and stolen bases from these three. Also, the Wolves picked up a big transfer from Texas in Dylan Raiola. Raiola is a 4-star QB as well as a D1 prospect on the baseball field. This pickup just adds even more depth to Chandler's lineup/pitching staff. This will be a fun team to follow this year, with expectations to win a lot of ball games.
