Preseason I.D. - McHenry Preview: Roster and Check-in Times

The Prep Baseball Report Preseason I.D. – McHenry at Pro Player Academy in McHenry, IL will take place on Sunday, January 31, 2016.

The open showcase is geared towards all high school classes.

This is another new event to the Prep Baseball Report winter calendar. The event is full and is no longer accepting registrations. The showcase will consist mainly of prospects from the Northwest suburbs of Illinois.

It looks as though arms will be plentiful and should highlight the event. One of the top players signed up for the event is RHP Matthew McCumber (Cary Grove HS, 2017). 6-foot-3, 180-pound McCumber is currently ranked No. 49 in Illinois and committed to Northern Illinois. Early in the fall we saw him sit in the low 80’s with his fastball and was around the zone with his entire repertoire.

Another 2017 arm who will be in attendance is RHP Michael Lasiewicz (McHenry West HS). Lasiewicz, currently uncommitted, is ranked No. 61 in the state and was one of the top pitchers at the Class of 2017 Showcase this past October. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound right hander sat 84-85 mph, touching 86 from a high ¾ slot. Changeup looked to be his best secondary offering and potential to be a plus pitch.

Two 2018 arms with bright futures will also be there this weekend. RHP A.J. Golembiewski (Marian Central Catholic HS) is 6-foot-3, 165-pounds with plenty of room for continued physical development. His fastball currently sits 78-80 mph, touching 81 with plus feel for three pitches. RHP Dylan Honkala (McHenry West HS) is another 2018 who will be fun to watch come Sunday. Solidly built, 6-foot-1, 180-pound righty has a clean and athletic arm. This past summer his fastball sat 78-80 mph and flashed feel for a changeup at 75 mph.

Another prospect in the 2018 class worth noting is SS Danny Sperling (Wauconda HS, 2018). Sperling is a left-handed hitter who was one of the top position players at the MCYSA Showcase this past summer. He has a lanky, projectable frame and soft hands with fluid footwork on the infield. Offensively, short, level bat path and quick hands.

2016 C Brady West (Rockford Lutheran HS) who is committed to Indiana Weslyan will also be at the event. 5-foot-11, 196-pound West is currently ranked No. 90 in Illinois. He is a left-handed hitter with present bat speed and an above-average defender as well.

Check-In times for the Preseason I.D. - McHenry are as follows:

Position Players:
10:00 AM-10:20 AM

Pitcher Only:
1:00 PM-1:20 PM

Catchers will stay for both sessions as they will also be evaluated while catching bullpens.

The event should end around 1:30 PM for position players. The last pitcher should conclude around 4:00 PM.
