Preseason I.D. - Lockport: Quick Hits

The first annual Preseason I.D. - Lockport took place on Monday, February 20th to the Bo Jackson Elite Sports Dome. The event was open to all high school classes and just shy of 200 prospects took place in the pro-style workout.

Today we take a quick look at some notable performances from the event. Stay tuned for a stat story in the coming days.

2019 Position Players

A trio of 2019 backstops, Max Malley (Marist), Greg Budig (Plainfield North) and Jacob Schroeder (Homewood Flossmoor) stood out on Monday. All three had low pop times of 2.10 or better. All three were at least 74 mph from the crouch while Malley and Schroeder both ran sub 7.25 60’s.

Infielders Ryan Maher (Brother Rice) and two Marist HS products, Brian Adams and Jack Brannigan, should be followed closely moving forward. Maher is an actiony defender with soft hands. Adams, a switch-hitter, has been highly visible this winter and consistently barrels baseballs. Athletically built Brannigan ran one of the top 60 times of the event, 6.68 and was clocked at 85 mph across the diamond.

OF Ethan Schreier (Neuqua Valley, 2019) is a high upside prospect, at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds he features a highly projectable frame, advanced arm strength for his age and an aggressive middle of the field approach at the plate.

OF Darrius Little (Homewood-Flossmoor, 2019) is an athletic outfielder (ran a 6.90 60) with fluid actions and his arm carries. At the plate he has a simple, line-drive approach and gets extension through contact.

Central Illinois Arms

A pair of central Illinois area sophomore arms showed well on Monday. RHP Taylor Catton (Dunlap, 2019) had the top velocity of the day touching 87 mph and RHP Luke Markunas (Washington, 2019) showed improved velocity since the summer jumping to 85 mph with sink.

Plainfield North

The Tigers seem to be reloading with a few notable 2019’s. Jacob Goss was a southpaw who sat 79-82 mph with a loose quick arm and throws his secondary stuff with conviction. OF/RHP Nate Curtis is physically advanced at 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, ran a 7.24, was 86 mph from the outfield and registered a 92 mph exit velocity. On the mound his fastball sat 81-84 mph and flashed a curveball with depth at 64-66 mph.

2020 Arms

Some freshman arm strength to follow on the mound included RHP Cooper Herold (Minooka, 2020) who touched 81 mph and RHP Vince Borrelli (Andrew, 2020), topping out at 82 mph.

2020 Left-handed bats

Infielder Anthony Mangano (Lake Zurich) and catcher Trevor Davis (Danville) are two freshman to follow moving forward. Mangano makes consistent hard contact and creates above-average bat speed for his age. Davis has strength in swing with power potential and has a high ceiling behind the plate.

Unsigned Seniors

Senior infielder Rasheed Bernard (Simeon) has bat speed at the plate and found a lot of barrels in his round of BP. On the infield he has active, fluid feet, steady hands and an arm clocked at 80 mph across the diamond.

Senior RHP Kevin Davis (Lockport) is still on the board and continuing to improve. Davis has only recently taken to the mound after an eight inch growth spurt now stands him at 6-foot-8, 210-pounds. Davis sits 83-85 mph with a loose arm and still just learning what he can do on the mound.
