The inaugural Preseason I.D. - Lockport took place on Monday, February 20th at the Bo Jackson Elite Sports Dome in Lockport, IL. The event was open to all high school classes and had close to 200 participants from around the Chicagoland area.

Monday we begin the analysis from the event with the catchers. Today we continue the roll-out by looking at the pitchers.

Top PITCHING Prospects

1. Luke Markunas, RHP, Washington, 2019
6-foot-3, 210-pound, right-handed pitcher, strong, large-frame with projectability. Works from a ¾ arm slot with long arm action, easy effort. Tall and fall delivery, works towards the plate, lands square with toe closed, finishes athletically. Featured an advanced changeup, commanded it in the zone, sinking, fade action, thrown with near fastball arm speed, clocked at 70-71 mph. Fastball flashed sink, clocked at 82-85 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, clocked at 69-72 mph.

2. Kevin Davis, 1B/RHP, Lockport, 2017
6-foot-8, 210-pound, lanky, athletic two-way prospect. On the mound, projectable right-handed pitcher, stretch only with regular effort. Tall and fall delivery, stays in line, lands square. Loose, quick arm action from an over the top angle. Fastball, slight run and sink, sat 83-85 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 68-70 mph. Changeup, maintains near fastball arm speed, works mostly straight, 77-78 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, fluid rhythm, line drive approach, level path. Exit velocity registered at 92 mph from a tee. Balanced setup, leg lift, balance through contact. Defensively, fluid footwork, clean exchange, quick release. Long, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws had carry and clocked at 83 mph from the infield. 7.56 runner in the laser-timed 60.

3. Taylor Catton, RHP/3B, Dunlap, 2019
5-foot-7, 155-pound, two-way prospect. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, some effort in delivery, stays in line, lands closed. Short, quick arm action from a ¾ angle. Fastball, works mostly straight, sat 82-86 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, maintains arm speed, late action, 69-71 mph. Slider, two plane, 72-75 mph. Changeup, varied between cut and fade action, 70-74 mph. Defensively, has a long arm action from an over the top to high ¾ slot. Throws had accuracy and carry, clocked at 82 mph across the infield. Reliable hands on the infield. Offensively, hits from a balanced setup with a short stride. Strong contact, long path through the zone. Exit velocity registered at 87 mph from a tee. 7.49 runner in the laser-timed 60.

4. Collin Wilma, RHP/3B, Tinley Park, 2019
6-foot-3, 175-pound, athletically-built right-handed pitcher and third baseman. Live arm and high ceiling 2019 arm. On the mound, good projectability, works from a high ¾ arm slot with a long, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, works on-line, lands square, finishes in an athletic position. Fastball flashed arm-side-run, clocked at 81-82 mph, topped out at 83 mph. 11/5 curveball, clocked at 59-62 mph. Slider, downward action, clocked at 72-75 mph. Changeup flashed sinking action, clocked at 75-78 mph. In the field, throws from a high ¾ arm slot with long, loose arm action, kept throws around the bag with carry. Clocked at 83 mph across the infield. Offensively, balanced setup, short stride, barrel works uphill, generates bat speed. Recorded an 88 mph exit velocity off a tee. Ran a 7.64 laser-timed 60.

5. Sean McLaughlin, LHP, Lincoln-Way East, 2020
6-foot-5, 200-pound, lanky left-handed pitcher, lots of room for continued physical development. Works from an over-the-top arm slot with long arm action. Tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, works towards the plate, lands closed and finishes in an athletic position. Fastball flashed arm-side-run, clocked at 76-77 mph, topped out at 78 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, late action, clocked at 62-66. Changeup flashed fade, clocked at 70-72 mph.

6. Matthew Helwig, 3B/RHP, Lincoln-Way Central, 2018
5-foot-10, 170-pound, two-way player. On the mound, tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, stays in line, athletic finish. Long, loose, quick arm action from a high ¾ angle. Fastball, works mostly straight, sat 82-85 mph. Curveball, has feel, 11/5 shape, depth, sharp action, 69-71 mph. Changeup, thrown for strikes, maintains arm speed, sink action, 76-77 mph. Knuckle, 73-75 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, flashed bat speed, looseness in swing, long bat path. Exit velocity registered at 84 mph from a tee. Hits from an open setup with a long stride. Defensively, has a long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws flashed accuracy and carry, clocked at 86 mph across the diamond. 7.29 runner in the laser-timed 60.

7. Tyler Heidkamp, LHP, Oswego East, 2020
5-foot-7, 150-pound, lanky, projectable left-handed pitcher, should continue to see physical development. Has good feel and command for all three pitches. Works from a ¾ arm slot, with a long arm action and quick arm speed. Tall and fall delivery, maintains good balance, pitches with easy effort, smooth rhythm. Keeps shoulders closed, works on-line, lands open and finishes in an athletic positon. Fastball had run and sinking movement, clocked at 75-77 mph, topped out at 78 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, late action, thrown with near fastball arm speed, clocked at 65-66 mph. Changeup, thrown with near fastball arm speed, fading movement, clocked at 67-68 mph.

8. Cooper Herold, RHP, Minooka, 2020
5-foot-10, 143-pound, lanky right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm slot with short, loose arm action and quick arm speed. Tall and fall delivery, smooth rhythm, works towards home plate, lands toe open and finishes in an athletic position. Fastball with run, controlled the zone, clocked at 79-80 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, clocked at 65-68 mph. Changeup clocked at 72-73 mph.

9. Jacob Goss, LHP, Plainfield North, 2019
6-foot, 167-pound, left-handed pitcher. Works from an over-the-top arm slot with quick, loose arm action, throws everything hard. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands square and finishes athletically. Fastball, flashed run, clocked at 79-82 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, thrown with fastball arm speed, clocked at 69-72 mph. Changeup, thrown with fastball arm speed, flashed fade, clocked at 74-78 mph.

10. Vince Borrelli, RHP/OF, Andrew, 2020
5-foot-10, 150-pound, two-way prospect with a strong frame for his age. On the mound, right-handed pitcher with three pitch feel. Works exclusively out of the stretch, stays in line, lands square, regular effort. Long arm action from a high ¾ slot. Fastball, slight run, sat 78-80 mph. Curveball, shaped varied between 12/6 and 11/5, 61-64 mph. Changeup, maintains arm speed, sink action, 70-73 mph. Offensively, right-handed hitter, closed setup, short stride, some balance through contact. Line drive approach, simple swing, short path. Exit velocity registered at 81 mph from a tee. 11. Nate Curtis, OF/RHP, Plainfield North, 2019
6-foot-2, 210-pound, physically advanced, two-way prospect. Offensively, right-handed hitter, present bat speed, strong contact, uphill path with extension. Exit velocity registered at 92 mph from a tee. Tall, open setup, short stride, maintains balance through contact. Defensively, plays through the baseball. Short arm action from an over the top slot. 12. Nathan Deloian, LHP, Lincoln-Way West, 2018
6-foot, 155-pound, lanky, wiry-framed, left-handed pitcher. Works from an over-the-top and high ¾ arm slots with loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery, some rhythm, works on-line, lands square, athletic finish. Fastball, flashed run, clocked at 78-79 mph, topped out at 80 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, thrown with near fastball arm speed, controlled the zone, clocked at 64-67 mph. Changeup, fade action, thrown with near fastball arm speed, clocked at 71-73 mph.

13. Ryan Harty, LHP, Plainfield South, 2018
6-foot-1, 160-pound, lean athletic frame, left-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm slot with quick, loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery with regular effort, smooth rhythm, works towards the plate, lands open, falls off the mound. Fastball clocked at 81-83 mph, topped out at 84 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, clocked at 67-70 mph. Knuckleball clocked at 66-73 mph.

14. Jack Schmitz, RHP, Homewood-Flossmoor, 2019
6-foot-4, 190-pound, lanky, wiry frame with room to fill out, right-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm slot with a long arm action. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands square and finishes in an athletic position. Uses a slide step from the stretch. Fastball flashed sink, thrown downhill, clocked at 80-81 mph, topped out at 82 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, depth, clocked at 69-73. Sinking changeup, thrown with fastball arm speed, showed good feel for, clocked at 74-77 mph.

15. Thomas (TJ) Heafey, LHP, Providence Catholic, 2019
6-foot-3, 225-pound, wide frame, left-handed pitcher. Works from a ¾ arm slot, firm arm action, loose wrist, good balance. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands square, finishes falling off the mound. Fastball, run movement, clocked at 80-81 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, early action, kept it down, clocked at 66-68 mph. Changeup, faded, thrown with near fastball arm speed, clocked at 70-73 mph. Cutter clocked at 79-80 mph.

16. Simon Herold, LHP, Minooka, 2018
6-foot-1, 185-pound, athletic left-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm slot with loose arm action. Tall and fall delivery, works on-line, lands square with toe closed, recoil finish. Fastball, showed run, clocked at 80-81 mph. Curveball, 1/7 shape, clocked at 64-67 mph. Changeup, showed good feel, thrown with near fastball arm speed, sinking action, clocked at 70-73 mph.

17. Chandler Kerr, LHP, Marian Catholic, 2019
6-foot-3, 210-pound, left-handed pitcher. Works from a high ¾ arm slot with a long, loose arm action, high draw. Tall and fall delivery, pitches with regular effort, smooth rhythm, works on-line, lands square. Heavy fastball clocked at 77-78 mph, topped out at 80 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, clocked at 58-63 mph. Sinking changeup, thrown down in the zone with near fastball arm speed, clocked at 66-69 mph.

18. Christopher Conrad, RHP/OF, Plainfield Central, 2019
6-foot-1, 156-pound, lanky, athletic, two-way prospect. On the mound, projects well, tall and fall delivery, stays in line. Loose arm action from an over the top slot. Fastball, downhill, works mostly straight, sat 78-79 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, depth, 63-67 mph. Changeup, sink action, 69-71 mph. 19. Elijah Paplanus, RHP/OF, Huntley, 2019
6-foot, 160-pound, two-way player. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, stays in line, lands open, falls off. Short, quick arm action from a high ¾ angle. Fastball, works mostly straight, sat 78-79 mph. Curveball, thrown for strikes, 11/5 shape, later, downer action, 66-67 mph. Changeup, 67-72 mph. 20. Brandon Hutson, 3B/RHP, Plainfield North, 2019
6-foot-3, 180-pound, lanky, athletic multi-positional prospect. On the mound, works from a high ¾ arm slot with quick arm speed and short arm action. Tall and fall delivery with some effort, stays tall at balance point, works on-line, lands square and finishes athletically. Fastball clocked at 80-82 mph, topped out at 83 mph. 11/5 curveball, clocked at 70-74 mph. Sinking changeup clocked at 74-76 mph. Offensively, balanced setup, bar load, short stride, keeps it simple. Line drive hitter, will occasionally go gap-to-gap, keeps barrel level, recorded an 87 mph exit velocity. 6-foot-2, 165-pound, right-handed pitcher. On the mound, works from a high ¾ arm slot with short arm action, throws with regular effort. Tall and fall delivery, works towards the third base side, lands closed and finishes in an athletic position. Fastball controlled the zone, clocked at 80-81 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, clocked at 67-69 mph. Changeup, thrown with fastball arm speed, clocked at 70-72 mph.

5-foot-11, 165-pound, two-way prospect. Offensively, left-handed hitter, fluid rhythm, present bat speed, loose swing, some hard contact, uphill path. 81 mph exit velocity from a tee. Open setup, leg kick timing trigger, balance through contact. Defensively, flashed athletic actions, reliable hands. Short arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws were accurate and clocked at 76 mph across the diamond. 7.85 runner in the laser-timed 60. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, tall and fall delivery with regular effort, stays in line, lands square. Fastball, works straight, sat 75-76 mph. Curveball, 12/6 shape, 60-62 mph. Changeup, flashed sink, 68-70 mph.

Nolan Weis, SS/RHP, Lockport, 2019
5-foot-11, 150-pound, switch-hitting, two-way player. Offensively, similar setup from both sides, balanced with a leg lift timing trigger. From the right-side, fluid rhythm, bat speed, some looseness, uphill path. Level path with some quick twitch from the left. Exit velocity registered at 82 mph from the right, 76 mph from the left. Defensively, has a short, loose arm action from a high ¾ slot. Throws clocked at 78 mph across the diamond. On the mound, right-handed pitcher, drop and drive delivery with some effort, good balance point. Short arm action from a high ¾ angle. Fastball, flashed arm side run, sat 77-78 mph. Curveball, 11/5 shape, early break, 62-66 mph. Changeup, some sink, 66-70 mph.
