Preseason I.D. - Gurnee: Quick Hits

The third annual Preseason I.D. – Gurnee Showcase at The Bat Speed Academy in Gurnee, IL took place yesterday, Sunday, February 26, 2017. The open showcase featured just shy of 100 prospects from all high school classes.

Today we begin the analysis of the event by taking an early look at some notable performances. Stay tuned for the stats story coming in the next few days.

BREAKOUT ARMS

+ McCade Brown (Normal West, 2018) is a 6-foot-5, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher with upside. Brown had late life to his fastball that sat 83-86 mph and showed feel for a changeup with fade action.

+ 2020 Johnny Kubin (Marist) put himself on the map as a high-follow right-handed pitcher. Kubin who has a fast, loose arm sat 81-83 mph with his fastball and showed the makings of a three-pitch mix. Also, worked out in the outfield where he was clocked at 87 mph.

Unsigned Senior

+ 6-foot-4, 195-pound, athletically built RHP/C Paul Turelli (Lake Forest) was around the zone with his three-pitch mix and his fastball sat 84-87 mph, touching 88. He was clocked at 78 mph from the crouch and registered a 90 mph exit velocity at the plate.

INFIELDERS

+ Switch-hitting infielder Austin Higgins (Fremd, 2019) took one of the best rounds of BP on the day. Higgins has a fast bat and takes an aggressive swing from both sides of the plate while maintaining good balance throughout. Defensively, he is an actiony defender with the ability to make plays on the move and throw from multiple arm angles.

+ Infielder Austin Biehl (Mahomet-Seymour, 2018) flashed bat speed and looseness at the plate. Registered an 87 mph exit velocity. Defensively, he has soft hands and fluid feet on the infield.

+ SS/RHP Logan Mueller (Lakes Community, 2019) had the top infield arm of the event, 90 mph. Also, was 83-84 mph on the mound.

HARRISBURG HS

+ 6-foot-1, 200-pound RHP/C Isaac Crabb is a physical freshman with a loose arm and fastball up to 79 mph. Behind the plate pop times ranged between 2.11-2.26.

+ Athletically built 6-foot-3, 190-pound 2018 RHP Dalton Lambert. Impressed on the mound with his overall feel, fastball that sat 84-85 mph with tilt and curveball with good spin and power potential.
