The Prep Baseball Report Preseason I.D. – Gurnee at The Bat Speed Academy in Gurnee, IL will take place on Sunday, February 26, 2017. The open showcase is geared towards all high school classes. There is still time to register for the event by CLICKING HERE.
This Sunday marks the third annual Preseason I.D. – Gurnee event. The event already has a history of high-end talent in attendance. At the inaugural event two years ago, RHP Kevin Malisheski (Wauconda, 2016) and RHP/C Anthony Calarco (New Trier, 2018) were two of many notable players in attendance. Malisheski, an Illinois State recruit, was drafted by the Dodgers in last year’s MLB draft and decided to sign. Calarco is a Northwestern commit and one of the top two-way players in the junior class.
Last year’s event featured two of the top three ranked 2019’s in Illinois, RHP Quinn Priester (Cary-Grove) and INF Andrew Wiegman (Carmel Catholic). Preister, currently ranked No. 2 in the 2019 class, topped out at 87 mph on the mound at the event. Wiegman, a Louisville commit, currently ranked No. 3, ran a 4.04 home-to-first, was clocked at 90 mph from the outfield and 83 mph across the infield.
This year’s event is already approaching 90 participants and is bound to bring some new names to the forefront.
A few names currently on the roster that we are familiar with is RHP Nick Gilhaus (Normal Community, 2019), RHP/INF Ryan Leland (Sandburg, 2019), 3B/RHP Tommy Windt (Sandburg, 2019) and 1B/LHP Camden Nisenson (Crystal Lake Central, 2018).
