Preseason College Prospects Showcase - Session One Pitcher Analysis

By Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

The 1st Session of the Preseason College Prospects Showcases took place Saturday, January 10th at Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA with Session Two scheduled for January 17. Yesterday we broke down the position players in attendance.  Today we we analyze the two-way prospects that participated.

Top Prospect

Andrew MayhewIt's rare that a prospect with significant talent arrives at an open event without our staff or college coaches in attendance knowing of him. Pennridge 2017 right-hander Andrew Mayhew was definitely and exception to that rule. The 5-foot-9, 130-pound sophomore was less than imposing physically as he stepped to the mound for his bullpen session, but certainly got everyone's attention very quickly.

Mayhew flashed a loose arm and a simple, efficient delivery with command of four pitches.  He sat 82-84 with his fastball that shows late life. Mayhew's 70 mph curveball has tight rotation and 11/5 shape while his 72 mph slider has some down action out of the same high 3/4 arm slot. The righty completed his array of pitches by showcasing a 75 mph changeup with arm side fade thrown at fastball arm speed.

Pitcher Onlys

Zachary Moretski, RHP, La Salle HS (PA), Class of 2017
Moretski sat 74-75 from a high 3/4 arm slot with limited movement to his four seam fastball. The 6-foot-2, 210-pound sophomore has a projectable frame and should see significant velocity increases moving forward with some adjustments to his delivery. Moretski is a strike thrower that commanded a 68 mph curveball with 11/5 rotation and a 68 mph changeup with some sink. Moretski will a be a pitcher to follow in this class to see if his size and athleticism translates into added velocity.

Nicholas Tetkoskie, RHP, Mechanicsburg HS (PA), Class of 2016
Tetkoskie is a 5-foot-10, 155-pound junior that sat 74-76 from a short arm delivery. The righty showcased 62 mph curveball with 10/4 rotation and a 69 mph slider with tighter break. Tetkoskie also commanded a 73 mph changeup thrown at near fastball arm speed.
