Preseason Classic Vero Beach v American Heritage MVP- Kolbe Aven
February 13, 2020
The 2020 PBR-Florida Preseason Classic kicked off in grand fashion at Vero Beach High School yesterday. In front of over 150 scouts, a loaded American Heritage lineup with 8 commits, took Nick Gorby and Vero Beach. Gorby would cruise early for Vero early, going nine-up nine-down through three innings and help Vero jump out to an early lead. Gorby worked mostly 89-92 mph and showed an up tempo pace and feel for three pitches. A leadoff walk in the fourth and a triple from Jordan Carrion would get things going early. MVP Kolbe Aven would then come up big with a go-ahead three run home run and Heritage would not look back.
Uncommitted 2020 LHP Hunter Paris would come in in relief of Gorby and may have been the biggest surprise of the night. The left-hander worked 84-87 mph and showed a ton of potential. If not for Aven's homerun, he might have gotten the MVP, but that one swing gave Aven the honors for the night.

Scouting Report
06/03/18- The catcher, who is the son of head coach of American Heritage Bruce Aven, has really continued to improve and stood out defensively. Worked under the baseball and showed advanced receiving skill and overall feel for the position. Offensively, the swing works, timing was off and will be a high follow as he gains at-bats.
08/15/17- 5-foot-10, 175 pound catcher a stocky build with a strong lower half. Defensively, he has a slightly high setup and could improve the transfer to release, but shows quality footwork and a strong accurate arm with a pop time of 2.0. Offensively, the right handed hitter uses his strong lower half well It is a simple swing, that is direct to the ball. He consistently found the barrel with line drives from gap to gap.
