Preseason All-State Showcase Outfielder Analysis: Class of 2015

witmerThe Preseason All-State Showcase displayed the talents of 20 outfield prospects on February 23 at B2B Baseball Academy in Manheim, PA. The quality of outfielders was very good and should force some significant movement in the PBR Pennsylvania player rankings that will be updated in the next two weeks. In Part Two of our analysis we will take a look at the prospects in the Class of 2015.

  1. Gabe Witmer, OF/RHP, Twin Valley HS

    Witmer is a 5-foot-8, 145-pound prospect that does many things well. He has an athletic frame and moves well to the baseball. Witmer showed good carry on throws of 83 mph to home plate and showcased a 4.10 home-to-first time indicating his ability to cover some ground in the outfield. Witmer displayed a short, compact swing at the plate that resulted in consistent barreling of the baseball and line drives to all fields.

  2. Scott Kuczala, OF, Wyomissing HS

    Kuczala showed well in all facets of the game. The 5-foot-10, 150-pound right-handed thrower showed athletic actions in the outfield and good carry on throws of 80 mph to home plate. The switch-hitter showed a short swing path and the ability to consistently square the baseball from both sides of the plate. His approach and results are nearly identical from each side with a 78 mph bat exit velocity.

  3. John Lee, OF, Upper Dublin HS

    Lee is a 5-foot-9, 185-pound prospect with broad shoulders and an athletic build. Lee showed accurate throws from the outfield and a good arm at 82 mph. Lee hits out of a square stance and has limited wasted movement in his swing. He produces good barrel whip with a solid hip turn generating an 81 mph bat exit velocity. Lee uses the middle of the field well and shows signs that he will have some power potential as his body continues to develop.

  4. Tommy Marrollo, C/OF, Downingtown East HS

    Marrollo is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound prospect who showed good foot speed with a 4.08 home-to-first time. He displayed the ability to play through the baseball and throws of 81 mph to home plate. Marrollo hits out of a square stance with a compact swing that results in consistent line drives. Marrollo's ability to play the outfield in addition to his primary position behind the plate make him an interesting prospect to follow in the coming years.

  5. Dan Blazejewski, OF/2B, Phillipsburg HS (NJ)

    Blazejewski is a long, lanky prospect who showcased a 79 mph arm from the outfield and a 4.44 home-to-first time. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound sophomore throw right handed but bats from the left side. He has a quiet swing with little wasted motion that results in a flat swing path and the ability to be consistently on time to the hitting zone. Blazejewski consistently barreled the baseball and displayed the potential for some power to the pull side with additional maturity to his frame.
