Preseason All-State Showcase: Middle Infielders

On February 11th , Prep Baseball Report Oklahoma held its inaugural Preseason All-State Showcase, in Tulsa Oklahoma at the state of the art World Baseball Outreach indoor facility. An invite only roster of 50 players from around the state in the 2018-2020 classes attended the event while college coaches took note.
Player profiles have been updated with profile pictures, stats, and videos. In days to come, we will break down the event position-by-position. Today, we will take an in-depth look at the middle infielders. Though many of the players here are two-way players, they will be covered here only as middle infielders. Colton Bertus, 2B, Deer Creek (2018)
A 5-foot-9, 165-pound lean, athletic build. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-opposite field, line drive approach. Hits from an open, front leg heavy set-up. Uses a smooth load, hanging leg kick for timing, hands start high, short to contact with a downward angle of attack, high finish. Consistently on time, found barrel, and produced line drives, 85 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.11 laser-time 60. Defensively, shows advanced hands, and clean footwork. Throws from a high 3/4 slot, some accuracy, 77 mph.
Kevin Collyar, SS, Oklahoma Christian Academy (2018)
A 5-foot-8, 165-pound lean, athletic, quick twitch athlete with strength throughout. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-pull approach with lift and some pop. Hits from a front foot heavy stance, smooth load, small stride, short to contact, high finish. Collyar shows extremely quick hands in his high-effort swing, exit velo 95 mph. Defensively, shows active feet, above average hands, athleticism, and high energy. Throws from an over-the-top slot, some carry, flashes accuracy, 76 mph.
Jordan Compton, SS, Carl Albert (2018)
A 5-foot-11, 170-pound lean, athletic frame with wiry strength. Offensively, a switch hitter, more consistent from the right, middle of the field approach, bat speed, some pop to the pull gap. Uses a crouched, slightly front foot heavy set-up, some rhythm in the hands, quick knee-knock leg kick, slightly uphill path produces backspin, up to 87 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.00 laser-timed 60. Defensively, quick, strong, and accurate arm, up to 86 mph across the diamond, average hands, flashes improved footwork.
Colby Entwistle, SS, Edmond North (2020)
A 6-foot-2, 175-pound wiry strong frame with room to add size and strength. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach with lift. Hits from a very back leg heavy set-up, low hands, moderate leg kick, big hand pump, uphill bat path. Finds consistent barrel in BP, 75 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.20 laser-timed 60. Defensively, flashed some athletic actions, fields the ball deep at times, will surly quicken as he fills out his frame. Throws from a 3/4 slot, 76 mph across the infield with good accuracy.
Cesar Escobar, 2B, Santa Fe South (2018)
A 6-foot-1, 143-pound frame with room to add size and strength. Offensively, a right handed hitter, middle of the field approach, some lift. Hits from an open stance with a crouch, long stride, hands stay lat and low through finish, 83 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.49 laser-timed 60. Defensively, shows deliberate actions, throws form a high 3/4 slot, some accuracy, 74 mph across the infield.
Cade Horton, SS, Norman (2020)
A 6-foot, 165-pound lean projectable frame. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-opposite field, flat, line drive approach. Hits from a very narrow stance, slight leg kick, keeps his hands tight and inside the baseball, 78 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.39 laser-timed 60. Defensively, Horton is one of the best defenders of his class in the state, showing athletic actions, soft, consistent, sure hands, and advanced rhythm. Throws from multiple angles with accuracy, elite arm strength for his age, 84 mph across the diamond multiple times.
Chandler Ladd, SS, Fort Gibson (2018)
A 6-foot-2, 195-pound physical frame with strength. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, opposite field approach, mostly flat. Hits from a slightly open, balanced set-up with a slight squat. Uses a small load and stride, uphill path with some length, 80 mph exit velo. Defensively, shows good footwork, above average hands, and some athletic actions. Throws from a low-3/4 slot, very accurate arm, good arm strength, 79 mph across the diamond.
Boone Lasater, SS, NOAH Home School (2019)
A 5-foot-8, 148-pound lean frame. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle of the field approach with some lift. Hits from a balanced athletic set-up, takes a small stride and load, quality backside drive, shows quick hands and a flat bat path that produces some backspin, found barrel consistently, 87 mph xit velo. Runs a 7.43 laser-timed 60. Defensively, shows fluid lateral movement, sure hands, and athletic actions. Throws from a high-3/4 slot, accurate with some carry, 78 mph to first base.
Braeden McKee, SS, Durant (2018)
A 5-foot-10, 145-pound lean frame. Offensviely, a right-handed hitter, best when barreling balls to the pull gap, mostly flat. Hits from wide, balanced stance with some rhythm in the hands. Uses a short load and no stride, drops his hands before moving launch, flat path through contact, some length. Produced and exit velo of 78 mph. Runs a 7.39 laser-time 60. Defensively, moves laterally well an shows the ability to throw from different slots, 74 mph to first base, accurate.
Blake McQuain, 2B, Dale (2018)
A 5-foot-10, 155-pound lean frame. Offensively, a left-handed hitter, middle-opposite field, line drive approach. Hits from a slightly back leg heavy set up, uses a smooth load, small leg kick for timing, some length in the swing, high finish, found some barrels, produces a 78 mph exit velo. Defensively, shows some athleticism, fields the ball deep at times, throws from a high-3/4 slot, 76 mph across the diamond, accurate.
Mason Tittle, 2B, Morris (2018)
A 5-foot-10, 150-pound lean frame. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, best when in the pull gap. Hits from a front foot heavy set-up with high hands and rhythm. Uses a leg kick, and late heal plant stride for timing, arms get extended early in the back, downward angle of attack with a high finish, 76 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.29 laser-timed 60. Defensively, flashed improved footwork and average hands, throws form a high-3/4 slot, 76 mph across the infield, some accuracy.
Cameron Uselton, SS, Westmoore (2020)
A 5-foot-11, 165-pound lean athletic build with strength. Offensively, a right-handed hitter, middle-opposite field, line drive approach. Hits from an upright, balanced stance with rhythm in the hands, and barrel tip towards the pitcher. Uses a quiet and smooth load, short and flat to contact, high finish. Found mostly barrels, 81 mph exit velo. Runs a 7.14 laser-timed 60. Defensively, above average hands and feet, athletic actions, throws from a high-3/4 slot, 75 mph across the diamond with accuracy.
