February 28, 2015
Dan Cevette
Director, New York
It's been 13-days since the MEGA All-State Showcase held at beautiful Accelerate Sports in Whitesboro, NY. The dust has settled, the smoke has cleared out, and the SS reports are in. A very special thanks to the players, families, and coaches that braved the winter-weather and witnessed a truly special event. Here's a look at the SS's who attended Feb. 15th and what we saw, in specific no-order.
Zack Kesterson, SS, New Hartford HS, NY (2015)
Kesterson stands 6-foot-2, 215 pounds with an athletic, above average body type. At the plate he shows a slightly open stance keeping his hands back and controlled. On the pitch he powers his hands inside the ball with next-level force (95 mph exit velo) catching the ball out in front with great extension. From SS Kesterson passes all the eye test - from his approach, fielding technique and footwork (6.94 60). Clean smooth arm action with an easy 88-89 from a quick release. One of the most polished infielders in the 2015 class. He is committed to Duke, fun prospect to watch this spring.
Wyatt Myers, SS, Chittenango HS, NY (2016)
Myers stands 6-foot-0, 175-pounds with great athletic size. Love his actions from shortstop, quick feet, smooth sleek hands with a very quick release fields out in front of his body. 83-86 mph across the diamond and I don't think we have seen his best yet, durable strong body. At the plate he swings a next-level balanced swing that produces power, slight incline plane showing and showing off a 91 mph exit velocity off a tee.
Irvin Cespedes, SS, Lajara Baseball Academy, NY (2016)
Cespedes stands 5-foot-10, 150-pounds with a slender build, athletic body. At the plate his hands start relaxed, on the pitch hands load back, hands get to the ball fast, slightly uphill plane, short path, balanced swing with long extension. Extremely sleek, smooth hands, soft quick glove, release is clean and very quick, above average defender. Arm strength was 83 mph, combined w his quick release making him a no-doubter next-level guy. He ran a 6.98 60 showing above average athleticism. Really like Cespedes in the MIF.
Ryan Simmons, SS, Victor HS, NY (2016)
Simmons stands 5-foot-11, 175-pounds with an athletic built frame, could add 5-10 pounds of good weight. His fielding actions before the ball are smooth, gets out in front, moves through his throws. His glove is soft, hands are quick, release could be faster. He shows an above average arm at 87 mph across the diamond, excited to see him progress this year on the defending AA State Champs squad, should work on a faster release at times. He also swings with a high-end contact style, hands inside the ball type hitter, some extension out in front, needs to continue working on getting stronger. 84 mph exit velo off a tee, next-level projection.
Leugim Castillo, SS, Lancaster HS, NY (2017)
Castillo stands 6-foot-2, 185-pounds and has great size with a very projectable frame. Castillo shows an exit velocity of 91 mph and it definitely translates to the field. The rising sophomore has 'grown-man' strength/pop off the bat screaming deep-fly projection. His bat is high-level, easy athletic swing, barrel drops some on the pitch, extension through the ball. He ran a 6.61 (PBR NY record) 60 yard dash - extremely athletic player oozing high-level ability. At SS to gets behind the ball, open glove face, fields out in front, quick transfer to an over-the-top throw. He has a chance to switch to CF down the road, hard to keep his athletic ability out of the outfield.
Trevor Bradshaw, SS, Oswego HS, NY (2016)
Bradshaw stands 5-foot-10, 155-pounds with a slender build. He bats from the left side, upright approach, hands back. On the pitch his weight shits back, no stride, uphill path through the contact zone, long extension, shoulder height finish with balance. Exit velocity was 74 mph. Form the infield he ran a 7.22 60 yard dash. Fields the ball center of his body, a little deep, clean exchange, throws from a high-3/4 slot, arm strength was 72 mph.
Alec Teska, SS, Cato-Meridian HS, NY (2017)
Teska stands 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with broad shoulders, athletic frame. At the plate he starts with weight slightly shifted back, hands relaxed near head. On the pitch he uses a very short stride, short path to the ball, mostly level plane, some extension, higher finish with balance. From the infield he shows solid technique, open glove face, slightly deep when been gets there, quick transfer, throws from a low/mid-3/4 slot. Arm strength was 70 mph. He ran a 7.5 60.
Michael Diehr, MIF/RHP, Elmira HS, NY (2016)
Diehr stands 5-foot-9, 170-pounds with a smaller, but strong build. At the plate his approach is athletic, hands high, shifts weight back on contact. Hands drop to the ball, shorter path, slightly uphill path, long extension out in front, high finish. Exit velocity was 77 mph. From SS he ran a 7.28 60 yard dash. Fielding he keeps ball out in front of his body, open glove face, good technique. Clean transfer, arm action is straight back, throws from a lower-3/4 slot at 72 mph across the diamond.
Tanner Cooper, SS, Canandaigua Academy, NY (2017)

At the plate he starts relaxed, drops his hands, level bat speed through the zone, some extension, quick finish shoulder high. From the SS he ran a 7.57 60 yard dash. Fields the ball out in front, fluid, belt funnel, clean arm action, throws form a lower-3/4 arm slot. Arm strength at 77 mph.
Brett Migliore, SS, Wellsville HS, NY (2016)
Migliore stands 5-foot-10, 165-pounds with a good frame. At the plate he bats from the left side, uses a relaxed approach. On the pitch he uses a back load, weight shifts back, hands level with his shoulders. Short path to the ball, mostly level through the zone plane, smooth balanced swing, high finish. From SS he keeps the ball in front, fields out in front, stays down with the ball. Clean exchange, arm action is down and clean, throws from a high-3/4 slot, arm strength at 78 mph. He ran a 7.3 60 yard dash.
Alex Canty, SS, Batavia HS, NY (2016)
Canty stands 5-foot-9, 155-pounds with a smaller frame. At the plate he uses an open stance, hands relaxed. On the pitch his hands go back, weight shifts forward creating a slight arm bar, short path quick to the contact zone, great extension out In front. High finish, good balance, 81 mph exit velocity. At SS he moves to get behind the ball well - evidenced by his 7.0 flat 60 yard time, fields the ball a touch too deep, double pump transfer, quick arm action, throws from a mid-3/4 slot with arm strength at 79 mph. Guy to keep an eye on.
Ryan Marketell, SS, Webster Thomas HS, NY (2016)
Marketell stands 6-foot-5, 165-pounds with a great projectable body. At the plate he loads back on the pitch, slight stride. Barrel drops to the ball some, short path, uphill plane, long extension, shoulder height finish. Exit velocity was 82 mph. At SS he keeps the ball in front, move well for his size running a 7.1 60, hands are smooth, transfer is quick. Throws from a mid-3/4 slot. With added strength his arm velocity will increase, look forward to watching him this spring.
Michael O'Connor, SS, North Tonawanda HS, NY (2016)
O'Connor stands 6-foot-0, 165 pounds with a lean build. At the plate he starts with a slightly open stance, heel up, hands relaxed. At SS he stays behind the ball, shows side to side quick feet, ball gets a little deep on him, quick transfer, short arm action, throws from a low-3/4 slot with arm strength at 73 mph. He ran a 7.06 60 yard dash.
James Hartunian, SS, Bethlehem HS, NY (2016)
Hartunian stands 6-foot-0, 165-pounds with plenty of room for growth. At the plate he uses a heel lift, knee goes back, hands load, short path to the ball, plane is mostly level, some incline, long extension out In front, high balanced finish. At SS he stays behind the ball, open glove face, ball gets deep, arm action is quick, back and short, throws from a mid-3/4 slot at 72 mph.
Bryan Rivera, SS, Edison Tech HS, NY (2016)
Rivera stands 5-foot-8, 176-pounds with a smaller, compact frame. At the plate he uses a relaxed setup, slight knee lift and stride on the pitch for timing, short path, mostly level plane, extension in front to a high finish.
