Power 25: Weekly Review

No. 1 JSerra

JSerra had a difficult week, dropping the first two games in a three-game series versus Mater Dei, losing 4-1 on Tuesday and 5-4 on Wednesday putting their record to 3-3. They face No. 15 Santa Margarita in three games next week after a rain-delayed game against Mater Dei on Monday. They look to avoid a sweep as they face a very tough opponent in Santa Margarita.

No. 2 Villa Park

Villa Park’s week started with a 4-3 loss against non-league Hart but picked one back up against Brea Olinda winning 8-2. Villa Park’s record holds strong at 6-1. They face three different teams next week.

No. 3 Orange Lutheran 

Orange Lutheran dropped its first three league games to No. 15 Santa Margarita on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday getting out-edged with scores of 7-5,  5-2, and 4-3. Their record now sits at 6-5-1 and they will face league opponents Servite next week.

No. 4 Corona

Corona lost its only game of the week to Bishop Gorman by a score of 10-2 pushing their record to 4-2 on the season. Corona has a three-game week ahead.

No. 5 Harvard Westlake

Harvard Westlake won two of three in-league matchups against Loyola with a combined no-hitter on Thursday’s game. Their record is now at 6-3 with three games against No. 6 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) next week.

No. 6 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks)

Notre Dame won two games out of three against Chaminade by the scores of 7-0 and 3-1 while losing by a close margin in a 4-3 game. They have an important three-game series against No. 5 Harvard Westlake next week.

No. 7 Franklin

Franklin has started the season with a 4-1 record. Their first loss came on Saturday, losing 4-1. They start league games next week with three games and aim to continue a perfect start to the season. 

No. 8 De La Salle

De La Salle scored eight runs in both of their games this week and holds a perfect record of 3-0. Three more games await them next week as they start facing league opponents.

No. 9 Valley Christian (San Jose)

Valley Christian played only one game this week, bouncing back from a loss and winning 7-1 bolstering their record to 5-1. They have three games next week including one against No. 14 St. Francis.

No. 10 Foothill (Pleasanton)

Foothill’s first game in five days was a shutout by Acalanes 3-0. They hope to rebound with three games next week.

No. 11 Aquinas

In their first game in 16 days, Aquinas won by a score of 8-1. Their schedule picks up with two more games next week. Their record sits at 4-1.

No. 12 Gahr

In tournament play, Gahr played two games splitting them down the middle. Winning their first game by a score of 12-1 and losing the second game via shutout 4-0 to No. 24 South Hills. They have two league games next week and hope to add to their 4-2-1 record.

No. 13 Whitney

Whitney won two out of three games this week, falling only to No. 7 Franklin by a score of 8-1. They bounced back with an 11-1 win on Friday. After a week-long break, they resume games on Friday and play No. 8 De La Salle on Saturday.

No. 14 St. Francis (Mountain View)

St. Francis’ strong 5-1 start to the season was hindered by a loss early in the week but they bounced back with a strong pitching performance shutting out the opposition and winning by a score of 1-0. They have two games next week including a crucial game against No. 9 Valley Christian.

No. 15 Santa Margarita

Santa Margarita kicked off the Trinity league play with three straight wins against No. 3 Orange Lutheran. Their record stands at 7-1 and they look to stay hot against No. 1 JSerra who dropped two games to Mater Dei and is playing a makeup game on Monday before three games with Santa Margarita. 

No. 16 Etiwanda

Etiwanda played their first game since the PBR Preseason Invitational and won via shutout 4-0. They only have one game next week but the action will pick up in the weeks following.

No. 17 Norco

Norco still hasn’t played a game since the PBR Preseason Invitational but will kick off action starting Monday with a three-game series against league opponents.

No. 18 Archbishop Mitty

Archbishop Mitty stayed hot after defeating No. 9 Valley Christian with a 14-0 shutout against Menlo-Atherton. On Saturday they lost by a score of 7-4. Archbishop Mitty holds a 5-1 record and looks to improve with three games next week.

No. 19 La Mirada

La Mirada split their first two games this week, losing 4-0 to No. 20 Bonita and bouncing back with a 3-2 win. Like many teams in California, delayed and scheduled games to be played on Saturday were rained out. They are sitting at 5-2 and they have league action next week with two games.

No. 20 Bonita

Bonita defeated No. 19 La Mirada, shutting them out, they then completed another shutout also winning 4-0. Their record sits at 6-1 and they start their league play next week with two games.

No. 21 Clovis West

Clovis West had a tough week, losing both of their games by a one-run margin. On Wednesday, they lost to No. 25 Clovis in extra innings. Both of these close losses leave their record at 2-3 on the season. They look to bounce back with two games next week.

No. 22 La Costa Canyon

La Costa Canyon won both of their games this week, winning 14-3 and 5-3. With three games next week, they aim to stay hot.

No. 23 Woodcreek

Woodcreek suffered the first defeat of their young season against No. 8 De La Salle, being shutout 8-0. They look to change their fortune in the two games next week.

No. 24 South Hills

South Hills won the first two of their week in convincing fashion, a 12-2 blowout and a 4-0 shutout against No. 12 Gahr. Their record of 6-2 has them sitting in a nice spot before they start league games. They have three games next week.

No. 25 Clovis

Clovis ended the week 1-1-1 with an 8-8 tie, a 2-1 win in extra innings, and a 7-2 loss on Thursday. This week brings Clovis’ record to 4-2-1. With two games next week, they hope to bounce back.
