LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Week Five brought with is some significant performances and matchups with none bigger than the three game sweep by No. 2 Notre Dame over No. 3 Harvard Westlake. Number Five Santa Margarita won another Trinity League series this time against No. 10 JSerra. 

Plenty of more action around the state last week. Let's take a look at how the teams in the Power 25 fared last week. 

POWER 25 WEEK FIVE REVIEW

No. 1 Villa Park

Villa Park played and won two games this week. A 10-0 shutout and a 3-2 game against league opponents Foothill move their record to 8-1. A packed back half of the week awaits them with three games from Wednesday to Saturday.

No. 2 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks)

Notre Dame swept No. 3 Harvard Westlake in a highly anticipated league series, winning 2-1, 6-3, and 9-4, progressing their record to 11-1. Another league series against No. 21 Sierra Canyon is slated for this week.

No. 3 Harvard Westlake

Harvard Westlake suffered three straight defeats at the hands of No. 2 Notre Dame. Their record is now 7-6 and they have three games this week in league play.

No. 4 De La Salle

De La Salle started the week with two straight wins, scoring nine-plus runs in each game and only giving up one and two runs. In their power 25 matchup against No. 17 Whitney, they were upset, losing 6-5. They have three games next week including one against No. 11 Foothill (Pleasanton).

No. 5 Santa Margarita 

Santa Margarita won two out of three against No. 10 JSerra (formally ranked No. 1). Their record is now 8-2 and they continue to stay hot after a sweep of Orange Lutheran. Three league games are on the schedule as they look to continue a dominant run.

No. 6 Corona

Corona won two games this week in a league series. They had a shutout, winning 4-0, a tight win with a score of 5-4, and lost 7-2 on Saturday.  They have two games this week and hope to improve upon a 6-3 record. 

No. 7 Valley Christian (San Jose)

Valley Christian won three out of three games this week including a 6-1 victory over No. 14 St. Francis. Their record now sits at 8-1 and they will face No. 24 Serra and St. Ignatius in games this week.

No. 8 Franklin (Elk Grove)

Franklin continues their strong start to the season with three wins over a league opponent and is sitting healthy with a 7-1 record. A three-game league series is on their plate for this week.

No. 9 Aquinas 

Aquinas only had two games this week, winning both. They have three this week and hope to improve their current 5-1 record.

No. 10 JSerra

JSerra continued their run of bad form, dropping two this week to No. 5 Santa Margarita on the tail of a three-game sweep against Mater Dei. They were able to win one game with a shutout 2-0 victory. Another three-game week awaits them as they continue to work through their league schedule.

No. 11 Foothill (Pleasanton)

Foothill bounced back from a loss at the end of last week by winning both of their games. They have another two-game week with an important matchup against No. 4 De La Salle. Their record is currently 6-1.

No. 12 Etiwanda

Etiwanda won their only game of the week via shutout. They jump into league play with three games this week.

No. 13 Bonita

Bonita had two games this week played back to back on Friday and Saturday against league opponents. Their first game resulted in a shutout and the second, a 6-1 win. Their record now sits at 8-1 with three games this week.

No. 14 St. Francis (Mountain View)

St. Francis played two games split between Friday and Saturday in important league games against tough opponents No. 7 Valley Christian and Bellarmine. On Friday they lost to Valley Christian by a score of 6-1. On Saturday they also lost by a score of 5-1. They enter this week with a record of 6-3 and have two games, one being against No. 19 Archbishop Mitty.

No. 15 South Hills

South Hills won both of their games this week giving up only one run in total. They enter this week with an 8-2 record and will have two games.

No. 16 Orange Lutheran

Orange Lutheran won all of the games against league opponent Servite. Their record sits at 8-4-1 and they have a three-game series against Mater Dei next week.

No. 17 Whitney

Whitney started the week with an 11-1 win on Friday and in a highly anticipated matchup versus No. 4 De La Salle, they won 6-5 They have two non-league games next week, entering with a 5-1 record.

No. 18 Norco

Norco dropped a game to league opponents Santiago, splitting their series 1-1 bringing their record to 3-3 entering the new week. They have three games this week.

No. 19 Archbishop Mitty

Archbishop Mitty won their first two games of the week and in the Saturday matchup versus No. 24 Serra they won 5-2 giving them an 8-1 record. This week they start with a game against No. 14 St. Francis and two games on Friday and Saturday.

No. 20 Gahr 

Gahr didn’t have any games during the week until a doubleheader on Saturday where they won both games. They hold a record of 6-2-1 and have three games next week.

No. 21 Sierra Canyon

Sierra Canyon started the week with a 3-0 loss to St. Francis (La Canada) but bounced back with a 4-1 win. On Saturday they lost the series finale 2-1, leaving their record at 12-2-2. They have an important series against No. 2 Notre Dame who are coming off a sweep against No. 3 Harvard Westlake.

No. 22 La Mirada 

La Mirada won both of their games this week in league play bringing their record to 7-2. They have three games next week.

No. 23 Granite Hill 

Granite Hills split their games this week, winning one and losing one. Their record sits at 5-1 with two games this week in tournament play.

No. 24 Serra

Serra lost both of their weekday matchups and on Saturday versus No. 19 Archbishop Mitty they lost again, 5-2. Their record is 4-3 as they go into the week with a game against No. 7 Valley Christian followed by two more games against other league opponents.

No. 25 Cardinal Newman

Cardinal Newman remains perfect with a 6-0 record after winning both of their games last week. They have two games next week.
