Power 25 Ranking: Week 9
April 22, 2019
TEXAS, USA - Plenty of movement this week with a new No. 1 in Argyle who went 4-0 with wins over Decatur 2-0, Bridgeport 7-4, and a double-header sweep over South Grand Prairie (5-4, 9-7) on Saturday to move to 27-1-1 Overall. The Eagles strength of schedule speaks for itself, they have played through the rigors of a challenging early season slate and faced some of the top arms in Texas this season.
Not just that, but Cypress Ranch moves up to No. 2 with a 25-2 Overall record after going 2-0 with a sweep of Bryan (3-2, 11-0). No. 3 Georgetown also swept the second best team in their league with two wins over Hutto (4-0, 3-2). Colleyville Heritage slots in at No. 4 after going 2-1 last week with a district sweep over White Settlement, but the Panthers lost a non-district game to LD Bell on Saturday 8-0. Coming in at No. 5 is Veterans Memorial at 28-3-1 who won a huge game last Monday over King with a come from behind 5-4 victory.
No. 6 Prosper continues to climb the rankings after sweeping then No. 14 Allen last week (4-2, 8-0).
No. 7 Lake Travis didn’t necessarily fall two spots, more so the other teams jumped them with more big wins. But the Cavaliers did beat Del Valle 17-0 last week.
No. 11 Wakeland has a strong club at 23-7-1 and I could see them making it to Del Diamond, and will be a tough team to beat in a 3 game series.
For the first time this season there are no new teams in the Power 25. Five clubs went 1-1 last week (CC King, Mansfield Legacy, All Saints Episcopal, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, Ridge Point).
Bubble Teams
Klein Collins is now 17-5 after going 2-0 last week with wins over Klein 14-9, and Conroe 13-11. Although they gave up way more runs than a good team should allow, they are now in first place in their district at 13-2 and have a big game on Tuesday against No. 10 The Woodlands.
Marcus is now 22-9 after sweeping a district series with Irving MacArthur by a score of 20-0 over two games.
Lone Star is in second place in the Frisco District behind Wakeland at 11-5, 24-6 Overall.
Denton Guyer went 3-0 last week and moves to 20-12 Overall.
Round Rock is now 24-9 Overall and 14-1 in District with after winning 4-0 over Pflugerville and 19-6 over Cedar Park. Could see the Dragons having a reason for getting into the Power 25 and making a deep run in the playoffs.
Reagan is now 24-5 Overall, 11-1 in District after going 2-0 last week with a 14-1 win over Roosevelet and 13-1 over SA Lee.
