Evan Hooper 2017 OF/RHP verbally committed to Arkansas on Tuesday. This is very exciting for PBR Arkansas due to the fact that Hooper attended PBR Arkansas’s first event last October and has since attended, our Top Prospects Games and Underclass Games. Hooper makes the second player out of our initial showcase to commit, the first was 2016 C J. Paul Fullerton from Harding Academy HS. Both of those schools were represented at the first showcase as well.
Evan Hooper 2017 OF/RHP Cabot HS
Hooper is a 5-foot-10 185-pound OF/RHP with a medium frame and physical build. He is a plus player in all measurable tools, he has run at our events a 6.51, 6.49 and 6.37, from the outfield he has shown velocities up to 88 mph and exit speeds as high as 97 mph. Offensively he has great bat speed and maintains balance throughout. He uses an explosive lower half to drive balls with doubles power. He would benefit from a more discipline approach but the swing is sound. On the mound he has shown flashes of great stuff. In his one inning of work in the Underclass games he pitched 85-88 mph at a below ¾ arm slot with a quick clean arm. He threw a change up and a Frisbee breaking ball for strikes from that arm slot. Right now he projects to be an outfielder in the future but as he develops may turn into a dual player at the next level.
