Player Spotlight: Tanner Sagouspe

FRESNO, CA. - When it comes to top uncommitted players in the state of California Tanner Sagouspe is a player at or near the top of the list. We have had the opportunity to see and scout Sagouspe as a member of the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers baseball team as well as the PBR California Central Valley Preseason ID in January. Needless to say he has made a lasting impression on our team of scouts.
Sagouspe put up huge offensive numbers as a sophomore - .427 BA/.475 OBP/13 2B/2 3B/3 HR/38 RBI/25 R/12 BB/8 SB - and also had a spotless record on the mound where he was 7-0 with 2.90 ERA/22 strikeouts in just 24 innings pitched, Sagouspe is off to a solid start in the 2020 season - .316 BA/3 2B/1 3B/4 RBI/4 R/1 SB -- 2-0 /1 SV/2 H/ 8K/7 IP.
While it’s likely too early to say where he’ll end up in the future - on the mound or in the outfield - there’s no denying the talent he possesses. At 6-foot, 190-pounds, Sagouspe is built like a free safety in football with the athleticism to match - he has the speed/range to play every outfield position. There’s strength and power in the frame which translates to burgeoning power at the plate where he registered a 91 mph exit velo recently. There’s future over-the-fence power in the bat with present gap power.
If you’re a college coach looking for one of the top uncommitted outfielders in the class in the state of California, Sagouspe should be a player you seek.

Scouting Report
2020 Central Valley Preseason ID - Sagouspe was one of my standouts during the Fresno Easter Classic in 2019 and he showed as one of the guys who should not be uncommitted very long in 2020. Having added good strength since last viewing, Sagouspe now looks like a future power hitting/power armed RF with the range to play all three positions in the OF. Standing narrow and opened as he keeps his hands away from the back shoulder, Sagouspe controls his forward momentum as the hands work back creating stretch through the core and producing above-average bat speed as he laced hard line drives through the left-center side of the field and flashed his power later in the round. There are times where the hands can get away from the body and around the baseball, but when he stays connected to his fast turns, the ball rockets off the bat (91 EV). In the OF, the very compact and strong arm shows limited wasted movement as he was able to get to it and get it out of his hand showing accuracy and flashing future plus life on throws (89 OF). Exciting one to follow for the next couple seasons.
2019 Fresno Easter Classic - Medium, athletic build started in CF before moving to the mound. FB 80-82 MPH making hitters swing through pitch up in zone before showing deep and late CB at 68-69 MPH showing Up/Down sequencing. At the plate showed pop to the pullside with 2 HR’s with good bottom hand direction to the baseball and late barrel quickness
