I set up shop last Friday at Middle Tennessee State University for the Class A, AA, and AAA State Championship Games. Over the next several days, we will take a look at players who caught my attention during the action-packed day of baseball. Kole Cottam begins our coverage of standout Class of 2015 players from the action at MTSU.
Kole Cottam, C, Knoxville Catholic HS, 2015
Cottam is 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect with an athletic frame who shows good strength. Defensively, he shows good footwork and blocking skills with a quick transfer and above average arm strength. There is some room for improvement in his framing skills as Cottam moves forward.
At the plate, the right-handed hitter starts with a balanced stance and stays quiet. He drops his hands at times getting under the baseball, but his hands are quick and he shows good plate coverage. Cottam went 2-for-4 with two singles to left field and two pop-ups to the right side in the AA State Championship game. With his frame and hand quickness, he has projectable power at the next level. Cottam also runs well for a catcher and is a potential high-level prospect with continued development.
