Player Evals: Infielders - Diamond Deacons Scout Day

PBR was in Kernersville, NC on Saturday September 5th for the PBR Scout Day of the Diamond Deacons. The Diamond Deacons program features players in the 2023 and 2024 classes, all living in the Triad Area of NC.
The PBR Scout Day consisted of a full pro-style workout for the position players. Position players ran a laser timed 60, followed by an offensive workout and a defensive workout. Pitchers faced live hitters in a controlled setting, showcasing their complete arsenal in a 15-20 pitch outing.
Below we take a look at some of the offensive Trackman numbers.

- 30 players went through the workout
- 29 players ran the laser timed 60 with a median run time of 7.55
- 5 players registered exit velocities of 85 mph or higher off the tee
- 22 pitchers threw
- 3 arms worked at 84 mph or higher
- 9 pitchers touched 80 mph or better
- 9 position players carried 80 mph or better from their position

Positional Profile: 1B/3B. Body: 6/3, 195 pounds. Strong build. Defense: Active feet, has bend in the hips, better than average hands, clean transfers. Arm: R. INF - 75 mph. Accurate with carry, short arm action, high 3/4 slot. Hit: R. Slightly open base, barrel flat over back shoulder. Short stride back to even, barrel goes up off back shoulder. Hands have some quickness, lift to the swing path, gets extension out front, gap to gap approach. Power: 83 mph exit velocity from the tee. Has strength off the barrel, better than average bat speed. Run:7.68 runner in the 60.

Bryson Bowman 1B / RHP / West Stokes, NC / 2023
Positional Profile: 1B/RHP. Body: 6/4, 165 pounds. Long, lanky frame. Defense: Active feet, feel around the first base bag, relaxed hands, clean exchanges. Arm: R. INF - 70 mph. Accurate, long arm action, high 3/4 slot. Hit: R. Balanced, slightly open base, barrel flat over back shoulder. Loose swing, flat barrel path through the zone, gets extension out front, uses the whole field, some barrel feel. Power: 80 mph exit velocity from the tee. Average bat speed, numbers should jump with added strength. Run:7.68 runner in the 60.

Harrison Lewis 1B / RHP / West Forsyth, NC / 2023
Positional Profile: 1B/RHP. Big body, working with intent on the mound. Potential to see the fastball grow as he matures Body: 6/4, 210 pounds. Large frame, strength present. Defense: Active feet, catches teh ball near center, has bend in his hips, relaxed hands, clean transitions. Arm: R. INF - 82 mph. Accurate with carry, medium arm action, high 3/4 slot. Hit: R. Even base, more weight on the back leg, hands just below back shoulder. Weight loads back with a toe tap, average stride, hands get back. Loose swing, hands are quick, barrel stays through the zone, gets extension out front, drove the ball gap to gap. Power: 98 mph exit velocity from the tee. Has strength, can drive the ball, above average bat speed. Run:7.91 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Stretch only. Builds tempo from the lift. Kick to the high chest, closing the front side. Loose, athletic hips. Works level and on-line, landing square. Has intent. Fights to repeat the delivery due to the intent through release, occasionally re-coiling through the finish Arm Action: R. Scapular load out of the glove, creating a short arm action. Still working for consistent rhythm with the short action. Arm strength is present with above average arm speed. Has intent. FB: T84, 82-84 mph. 1968 rpm. Positional Profile: 2B/RHP. Body: 6/1, 165 pounds. Strong build. Defense: Athletic, soft hands, clean transfers, gets the ball out quick to first base. Arm: R. INF - 81 mph. Accurate, some carry, feel for different arm angles. Hit: R. Balanced, wide, even base, barrel flat at back shoulder. Short stride, hands load down, barrel goes vertical. Quick, strong hands, barrel stays through the ball, abbreviated two hand hand finish, uses the whole field. Power: 92 mph exit velocity from the tee. Drove the ball during BP, above average bat speed. Run:7.81 runner in the 60.
Delivery: Stretch only. Athletic hips. Lifts to the mid-chest, building rhythm out of balance. Sits on the backside, reaching with the lead leg. Lands on-line and square, creating some speed in his lower half's rotation. Works with intent, finishing with a slight recoil Arm Action: R. Average to above arm speed. Arm strength over arm speed right now. Works with intent. Medium arm swing with the elbow working above the shoulder line. Over-the-top release FB: T84, 83-84 mph. 2133 rpm. Works with intent. Fights for consistent direction, with a fall to the 1B side, heavy at times. Athletic throughout with looseness in the body and whip in the arm Body: 5/9, 150 pounds. Thin frame, room to add strength. Defense: Athletic, quick feet, catches the ball near center, better than average hands, clean exchanges. Arm: R. INF - 73 mph. Accurate, short arm action, 3/4 slot. Hit: R. Open base, hands at back shoulder with barrel waggle. Weight and hands load back, short stride back to even.
