Plano Senior vs. Southlake Carroll: Game 2

PLANO, TX - Plano Senior HS won an extra-innings, back-and-forth affair on Saturday afternoon over Southlake Carroll HS in game two of the best of three series. Southlake got on the board early, scoring two runs on a Wyatt Stapp single to right field. Plano answered with two runs in the top of the second after Joey Winkler doubled down the first base line.
Both starters would settle in and put up zero’s for the third and fourth innings. In the fifth, Plano and Carroll traded a run a piece. For Carroll, Wyatt Stapp drove in his third run of the game on a line-drive sac fly to center. In the sixth, Plano added another run to go up 4-3.
But in the bottom of the seventh, Carroll would tie the game on another Wyatt Stapp RBI single. With the score tied at 4, we headed into extra-innings. Plano scored the game winning run on an RBI single from Braley Hollins. Final score, Plano Senior 5, Southlake Carroll 4.
Plano starting pitcher Jacob Mattox, a Hill JC recruit, went seven strong innings, scattering eight hits and three walks, while striking out three.
Southlake Carroll would go on to win game three by a score of 11-0 to advance to the next round of the Texas High School Playoffs.
