Peoria Preseason I.D.: Statistical Analysis

By Illinois Staff

On Feb. 24, the PBR Illinois team hosted the third-annual Peoria Preseason I.D. at the Louisville Slugger Dome in Peoria, Ill. The event featured over 70 players from high school graduates in classes 2022-25, from across Central Illinois and beyond.

On Thursday, our staff collaborated to highlight the biggest takeaways and highlights from this week's showcase, and we’re publishing them within our Quick Hits piece. Over the next couple of days we’ll be diving deeper into all of the data we collected rolling out even more coverage from the event.

Junior RHP/1B Nick Rainey (Illinois Valley Central, 2022; uncommitted) earned a mention at the Central Illinois Scout Day back in July for a well-rounded two-way performance, and he improved across the board statistically on Wednesday evening. He shaved nearly 0.4 seconds off his 60 time and improved his fastball velocity by four ticks since last summer.

Rainey and four other uncommitted 2022 right-handed pitchers led the event in max fastball velocity: Jacob Pate (Beardstown), Wes Hunt (Peoria Christian), Davis Hofstatter (Moline), and David Smith (Tremont). Underclassmen SS/RHP Cole Noreuil (Delavan, 2024) and SS/RHP Jacob O'Day (Normal Community) each reached an 85 mph high from the mound as well.

Listed at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, C Ethan Sosnowski (East Peoria, 2022) is featured heavily on the leaderboards below. He ran a 7.10, a good time for his physical figure, and his right-handed bat also helped him pace the event in max exit speed on offense.

SS/3B Trent Koehler (Lincoln Community, 2022) was one of the event's most improved players. He, too, attended last summer's Central Illinois Scout Day, and he's come a long way since. Last summer, Koehler ran a 7.48, topped an exit velocity of 80 mph, and was 86 mph from the outfield. On Wednesday, Koehler ran a 7.13 in the 60 and took defensive reps on the infield instead, where he reached an 91 mph high across, leading the rest of the group by 7 mph. And offensively, Koehler averaged an exit speed of nearly 82 mph while recording a 91.6 max.
