RHP Ben Dum set Maryland down in order in the top of the first inning, registering two strikeouts to set the tone for the evening. The righty, who will throw for Team Pennsylvania next week in the Midwest Future Games at Indiana University, sat 83-85 and mixed in a 70 mph curveball along with a 73 mph slider.

Pennsylvania leadoff hitter Sammy Miller doubled to start the Pennsylvania barrage, advanced to 3B on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single by 2B Ted Williams. Williams scored later in the inning on David Gulati's RBI fielder's choice ground out.

By the time Maryland mustered its lone run of the evening in the top of the 8th, PA had built a 6-0 lead. Pennysylvania answered with a three spot in the bottom of the inning to cap the scoring for a series opening 9-1 win.

Game One Highlights:

+ Nine PA pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts on the evening.
+ 3B Nick Distasio belted a solo home run to left field in the 5th inning.
+ Distasio was robbed of extra bases in his next at bat when Maryland CF Terrence Turner-Blair hauled down a shot to deep center field with a fully laid out diving catch.
+ Sammy Miller went 1-for-1 with a double, a run scored and an RBI on a sacrifice fly in his 2nd at bat. Miller also made the defensive play of the night for Team PA when he caught a fly ball in center field and gunned down a Maryland runner at the plate for the final out of the inning.
+ While RHP Dan Sepic yielded the lone Maryland run of the evening, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound righty was impressive. He sat 84-86 in his inning of work with a 74 mph late breaking slider.
