Pendleton Heights Sweeps Rushville
April 30, 2012
Rushville and Pendleton heights have been two of the hotter teams east of Indianapolis. So, I travelled to Rushville, Indiana to see the two Hoosier Heritage Conference opponents in a double header. Pendleton Heights walked away with a clean sweep; winning game one 11-6 and winning game 2 8-0.
Game One
Pendleton heights jumped up 8-0, in the first two innings, behind 6 Rushville errors and timely hitting. Trevor Jennings (Danville CC) had a two RBI single in the first and Nick Hendershot (2012) contributed with an RBI single as well. In the second, Hunter Cook (2014) hit a two run homerun to left. Pendleton Heights would add another run in the third and fourth. Rushville would not go away quietly though.
In the bottom of the fourth, Junior Austin Niehoff got Rushville on the board with an RBI single scoring junior Hunter Orme who had doubled in the previous at bat. With the score 11-3 Rushville made it interesting when senior Matt St. John turned on a fastball for a two run double. Mitch Gosnell (2012) and Orme followed with singles setting up sophomore Cameron Cox for an RBI double. That would be all Rushville could get though leaving the bases loaded.
On the mound, Jordan Humfleet controlled the game the Pendleton before losing the strike zone as he got tired. Humfleet is a Dayton commit and a left handed pitcher. Humfleet used his 82-85 fastball to set up a filthy 75 mile an hour breaking ball. In all Humfleet, recorded 7 strikeouts and only gave up 3 runs.
Game 2
Game two was all about Mitch Patishall. Patishall, a senior, is committed to the University of Cincinatti. Patishall pitched 87-89 touching 91 8 times and 92 once. His fastball was too much on this given night, striking out 14 and only giving up two hits. At the plat Patishall reached base all four at bats going 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Other key contributors for the Artesians were; Chandler Wilson (2014 who was 2-3 with a two RBI triple in the second, and Parker Aul (2012) 2-4.
